CONFIRMATION DINNER
On Monday evening a special
dinner was served at Dungan-
non United Church' in the Sun-
day School rooms for members
of. the confirmation clays and
their parents.
"' Members of the Ses;,jon were
in attendance, and their wives
assisted in the kitchen. •
There were two adult bap-
tisms. The film presented, "Is
This Call For You'.'" was well
received

FIVE EXPLORERS
GRADUATE
The Dungannon Explorers
group held a mother and
daughter supper on April 1,0.
after completing 21 meetings.
The five members graduating
from Explorers were Marsha
Alton, Jan Caesar, Leola
Chisholm, Betty Errington and
Annabel Stewart.
On May 12 the Explorer
group will have a table of
Crafts at the U.C.W. ' bazaar.
Weather permitting, a bike .hike
will take place on June 2.
The Explorer leaders, Mrs.
Jean Errington and Mrs. Marie
Stewart wish to thank the
mothers and daughters for
their co-operation and excellent
attendance this past season.
SOCIAL NEWS
Brian Stewart returned home
on Tuesday after five days in
Victoria Hospital, London,
following a motorbike ,accident
in which he suffered a broken
nose, and bruised ligaments in
his leg. He is able to be back at
High School now.
Steve Caesar also has retur-
ned tc `Pork having had bruised
ligaments In his leg in the same
accident.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Million of
Stratford visited on Wednesday
with Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Ivers.
On Sunday Mrs. Cecil Blake
was a guest in Wingham with
Mr. an$l Mrs.. Richard
Kilpatrick and Mrs. A.N.
Atkinson when other members
of their family and friends from
Sarnia, Listowel and Goderich
were present.
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Dauphin
of Goderich visited on Sunday
with the former's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Dauphin, Gary
and Susan.
Last week the' Dauphins had
a successful auction sale and
plan to move to Chatham this
week. On Tuesday evening a
few of the neighbours dropped
in and presented Mr. and Mrs.
Dauphin with a swag lamp and
a gift for Susan. Gary is
remaining in this community.
A reception in honor of Mr.
anis Mrs. Donald Alton
newlyweds, was held Saturday
evening in Dungannon
Agricultural Hall. A humorous
address was given by Girvin
Reed, and presentations were
made by Fred Phillips and An-
drew Ritchie, neighbours.
On Sunday Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Stothers and Jim, accom-
panied by Mrs. Wib MacLeod
of Kincardine attended a
family gathering in Preston at
the home of Mt. and Mrs.
Warren Bamford to honour
Mr. and Mrs. George Whittam
of Toronto on their recent 25th
wedding anniversary.
Miss Rosemary Eedy and
Bill Gardner of Stratford spent
the weekend at the former's
home here with Mr, and Mrs.
Ross Eedy.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerrie Glenn,
Angela and Arletta, also Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Glenn and
Harold who have spent the
winter months in Brownsville,
Texas, arrived home Monday
evening. Harve and Joe
Sproule, who had been at
Brownsville also, returned a
week or so earlier - in time to
enjoy a brief winter storm here.
We -are sorry to .know Mr.
Aubrey Higgins has been in
hospital in Goderich for several
days; also Mrs. John Ryan has
been hospitalized in Brampton.
Most every family attended
Brookside School Concert
either- Thursday or Friday
evening and enjoyed the splen-
did programs which were
presented.
Mr. and Mrs. Irvine Eedy
were in Kitchener on Sunday to
visit Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ott and
Matthew. Irvine also attended
a Legion meeting in Preston.
Mrs. John Young accom-
panied her sons Fred and Art
Young, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Wiggins to visit the former'_s
brother, Mr. Charles Souch of
Blyth, who- is a patient in Vic-
toriaaHospital in London. They
also visited another daughter,
Agnes, Mrs. Robt. Henderson
in London.
TOWN TALK
A lucky streak has
followed -three _ generations,
Mrs. Clem Desjardins was the
winner in the draw at the Glen -
mark Building Centre first
draw, an electric fireplace. Her
son Robert's wife, Barbara won
a black and white T.V. on the
won -on -the -door contest
and her mother,- Mrs. llarold
Larder, also won a T.V. on the
won -on -the -door contest.

Former Goderich OPP
officer gets promotion
Commissioner H.H. Graham
has announced the ipromotion
of Chief Inspector Harry M.
Sayeau, age 51, to the rank of
Staff Superintendent.
Born and educated in Kemp-
tville, Ontario, Staff Superin-
tendent Sayeau joined the On-
tario Provincial Police in 1946.
Rising through the ranks, he
served at Alexandria,. Pem-
broke,
embroke, Mount Forest and
Goderich Detachments. In 1961
he was promoted to the rank of
Inspector and transferred to
the Criminal Investigatior`i`
Branch. He served in that
capacity until 1966 when he
was promoted. to Chief Inspec-
tor and appointed Director' of
the Force's Transport Branch.
He will remain in this position.
Staff Superintendent Sayeau
and his wife, Marjorie, reside
on Robinson Street, Markham.
Staff Superintendent Sayeau
served as a Corporal in the
Goderich . Detachment from
1953 to 1961.
Association hears report
from workshop director
The April Meeting of the
Goderich and District.
Association for the Mentally
Retarded was held at the
Queen Elizabeth School,
Goderich on April 16, 1973.
Nine persons were in atten-
dance.
The Presidents, Gary David-
son welcomed everyone present.
Shirley Maine's read the
minutes of the annual meeting
in March, moved by Elsa
Haydon and seconded by Mrs.
Harris that the minutes be
adopted as read.
The President thanked Mrs.
Haydon for advertising our
meeting in' the Signal -Star.
This was done at Mrs.
Haydon's own expense.
Mrs. Carroll reported on the
Workshop noting the hayride
on April 17 and the enthusiasm
shown by the trainees for
howling. Moved by George"
Simons and seconded by Mrs.
Haydon that the May meeting
be held on the fourth Monday
of May. "
Transportation of Nursery
School children was discussed.
Gary Davidson reported on
Ontario Association Mentally
Retarded to be held at Univer-
sity of Waterloo on May 9-13..
'It was moved by Mrs.
Haydon and seconded by Mrs.
Carroll that George Simons be
our chief delegate.
Correspondence was read by
Garry Davidson. .Mrs. Graham
reported on Education Week at
Queen Elizabeth School. ' •

Mrs. Harvey Hagedorn of
Ear Falls, in North Western
Ontario, has been visiting in
the community this past week,
and with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Earl MacDonald of
Lucknow.
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Gour of
Deer River, Minnesota, visited
this week with her ssister and
brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Howes.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Williamson
of Wyoming visited Sunday
with his sister, Mr. and Mrs.
Ewen MacLean.
Also visiting at the MacLean
home on Sunday was Mr. and
Mrs. Allan MacLean of
Collingwood.
Mrs. Rhetta MacLennan,
spent last week in hospital in
London. She returned home on,
Friday.
Many from this community
attended the Spring Variety
and Minstrel show at
Brookside school Thursday and
Friday nights of last week.
They reported 'an enjoyable
evening.
Pupils and teachers of
Kingsbridge St. Joseph's school
have prepared an operetta
"The Magic Beanstalk"
presented Tuesday of this week
by Grades 5 to 8.
The community was shocked
and saddened to hear of the
tragic motor accident, in
Florida, on Saturday a,m.
claiming the life of Michele
Paretes. Michele was the older
daughter of the former Anna
Mae Blue, and granddaughter
of Sadie and the late George
•Blue of Detroit and formerly of
this communty. At the time of
the accident- Michele was
visiting with her paternal gran-
dparents who reside in Florida.

Michele who was i .' her 19th
year, was well kn twn in this
area, especially a tong the
young people as she ad spent
part of each summer ce she
was a child, at the hom of her
cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Finlay
MacDonald, and attended the
MacDonald reunion. Of a
friendly and outgoing nature,
Miss Paretes will be sadly
missed by a wide circle, of
friends. To her mother and her
sister Lisa, the community ex-
tends its deepest sympathy. Af-
ter service in Detroit on Mon-
day, the body, was brought, on
Tuesday morning to Lochalsh
Cemetery for final resting
place.
Preparatory service will be
held 1 riday evening in the Ash-
_ field Presbyterian Church with
Communion Service to be held
on Sunday morning_ at 11.
Mayor's wife draws
ticket for Rebekahs
The Rebekah Lodge No. 89
had a successful dessert card
Party.
The Mayor's wife, Mrs.
Harry Worsell drew the lucky
ticket on the knitted afghan.
