Friday evening Goderich
Kinettes celebrated 25 years of
service to Goderich at the
White Carnation in
Holmesville. All the past
Goderich Kinettes and
husbands were invited to the
celebrations.
For their Anniversary Project
the Kinetteg spent a total of
$500 within, the Community,
the money being divided.among
the following: Nelson Street
Nursing Horne, Maitland
Manor Nursing Home, Ontario
Hospital, Mentally Retarded
Association and the Retarded
Nursery.
Early in 1948, less than a
year after the Kinsmen Club
had been founded, Kinsmen
Executives were helping
Goderich women organize a
"KINETTE CLUB". This very
special event took place at the
Park House. Mrs. Grace Pat=
terson was the Charter
President of the Kinette Club
and has been President twice
since. Grace Patterson and
Jean Bannister, charter mem-
hers, are both still very active
in the Club today.
The first project undertaken
by the Club was a fashion show
held at the Goderich District
Collegiate Auditorium in the
fall of 1948.
In 1951 the Kinettes spon-
sored tile child conferences to
he held weekly for infants and
preschoolers.
One of the biggest projects
undertaken by the Kinettes was
the purchasing of an inhalator.
The inhalator was presented to
the Town of Goderich in .lulu
1952 at their Dominion Day
celebrations.
As early as 1959 the Kinettes
have held their Mardi Gras
Ball, one of the most popular
social events of the winter. The
woman chosen Queen of the
Ball receives a dozed red roses
and a host of other lovely gifts.
The Kinsmen and Kinette.
together presented a
cheque in the amount of
$2,500.00 to the Alexandra
Marine & General Hospital for
the purchase of a walk in
cooler. The Kinettes also
donated $1,000:00 to furnish
the former main .Iobhy of the
Hospital. More recently
Kinettes donated funds for
the
the
purchase of a K -Cooler.
The Kinettes have also
helpcl furnish and equip the
Kinsmen Playground. They
have donated to the Adult
Workshop for supplies and also
'to the Kinsmen Anniversary

Work progressing
on hiking. trail
along .the Maitland
Organizational and planning
work by the Colborne Town-
ship Recreation Committee is
progressing well on what will
soon be a "Maitland Hiking
Trail."
Mrs. .John Hazlett, Chair-
woman cif the committee, said
Tuesday that at present the
committee'; lawyers are
drawing up land agreements
which will he taken in a week
or so to the land owners. "We
want some sort. of agreement
that.will protect the land owner,
as well as permit hikers access
to his land," Mrs. Hazlett ex-
plains.
If approval can be obtained
from all the land owners and
the project goes on the trail will
begin just east of the DOMTAR
chemicals Sift() Salt explosives
dump and wind its way along
the river valley to the Maitland
Conservation Area near Ben -
miller.
The trail will he set up
through • a co-operative
agreement with t he Ma itland
Valley Conservation Authority.
"When the Recreation Com-
mittee was .et up about a year
ago by the Township Council,"
the chairwoman evp1ains, "we
sent out questionnaires to see
what projects the ratepayers
might like us to undertake.
"When the replies came back
a hik'n" tr:e! was l'ggested
and we chose it as an inexpen-
stve pilot project since we had
limited funds."
An agreement was then made
with the MVCA who would
supply the labor under a
SWEEP program (Students
Working to Enhance Environ-
mental Protection) which is
supported 100 per cent by
Provinciul grants.
The only cost to the
Recreation Committee will be
for directional signs placed
along the trail and 'fox a few
fence stiles. "There are really
very few fences along there," -
Mrs. Hazlett noted, "because
the farmers are not pasturing
their cattle so that cost even
will be limited." A,
The trail will he rough and
rugged, no large trees witl he
cut down and the SWEEP
crews will only open a pathway
through the area. "We don't
want a flat track," Mrs.
Hazlett observed.
The Recreation Committee
have had many calls giving the
project encouragement and
plan to hold a meeting 'of-in-
terested
of"in-
terested persons as soon as the
ground work has ---been com-
pleted.
Volunteers will

about May.
