Ise:could they learn that
reign cabbie, waiters and
s are even greedier and
surlier than those at home?
What other experience could
teach them that foreign food is
not only -pretty expensive but
often awful, and' that there's
nothing in the world to touch
an honest Canadian ham-
burger?
Where could they/get a better
course in driver education than
on the blood-soaked avenues of
Paris?
Two young student acquain-
tances of mine took a month off
during the winter, and flew all
the way to India. They couldn't
afford to eat in the big hotels so
they just ate what the natives
diel. They were sick during
their entire stay. Now how
could they have learned all
that by staying in school like
all the weak conformists'' -
Ah, it's just jealousy, kids. ,
know you boys had a wonderful
time ogling the gals in Greece,
the belles of Bavaria, the
poules of Paris. If 1 went, 1'd
have to take my wife. And even
if 1 didn't, I don't know
whether 1 could throw a good
ogle ,any more. Haven't had
any practice in years.
And ,.i know you` girls
discovered what 1 could have
told you in the first place and -
saved you all that money --
that Canadian girls are the
prettiest in the world and that
the ones from your home. town
are the prettiest in Canada.
I ask only one thing. You can
bore me for hours telling me
About your trip. You can put
me to sleep with your coloured
slides. You can awe me to tears
by showing' me the genuine
gimcracks you picked up for a
song. But please, please don't
ask me what I did on my winter
break holiday.
All right, then, if you're
adamant, I'll tell you. I
shovelled a foot of snow off the
sidewalk. I put out the garbage.
I spent a pretty exotic half-hour
at the library. I helped my•wife
vacuum and clean up the house
as she didn't want to leave a
dirty house in case someone
broke in while we were away.
Oh, yes, we went away. We
didn't go to the Barbados, as
we had planned: But we went
all, the way_ south to the city.
My wife went shopping. It
would have been cheaper to go
to the Barbados.
And while she was out, bat-
tling our way toward the poor-
house, I just sat back in the
luxury of our hotel room and
had myself a whee of a time
marking exam papers. "
Then we came home and fed
the cat. The whole thing is an
experience I shall never forget.
'It was'so much fun I'm already

out last summer by Mrs. Moira
Couper except this year there
will he one co-ordinator and

The -initial steps toward
county -wide plumbing and
building ,inspection were ap-
proved by Huron County Coi.in-
cil at last :.T'hursday's session in
the court house at Goderich'.
It is expected the cost of the
plumbing and building division
of the Board of Health will ,be
fully supported on a user pays
basis and with a sliding fee
scale of $15 for the first $1,000
of constructive value; $7.50 per
$1,0(11) for the next $24,000 of
construction; $5 per $1,000 for
values of $2,5,000 to $50,000;,
$2.50 • per $1,000 for $50,000 to
$100,000; and $2 per $1,000 for
values in excess of $100,000.
Medical Officer of Health Dr.
Frank Mills told council that a
Plumbing inspection bylaw
would be drawn up by the
county board of health and a
presentation concerning its con-
tent would be made to every
municipal council in t he
county.
Although the municipalities
are automomous as far as
plumbing inspection is concer-
ned, Dr. Mills said it would be
hoped that a majority of the
municipalities, ifiiV:111, would
adopt the suggested plumbing
bylaw for their own.
Chairman of the committee,
Gerry Ginn of Goderich Town-
ship, said the board hopes that
uniformity across the county
where plumbing inspection is
concerned, will be achieved.
