A long time land mark and social centre for Goderich and the
surrounding area is coming down. The Harbourlite Inn has'
been sold and is being demolished` to make way for other
buildings on its lot. The Inn,- overlooking lake Huron, was
once the centre of weekly dances and other social occasions
and then in later years was used less and Tess. (staff photo)
ROUNDAND ABOUT'ITH MARINA
Hi! Neighbours and "Hello
Friends', it is surely great to
be back again..I can't believe
I'm so far behind with all -the
happenings - good and bad - or
-that so much could happen in
two short Months.
['m real happy that we
missed the late, late storm•-• we
didn't last year'. I was pleasan-
tly surprised that you had had
such a mild winter - first one in
many, many years.
One nice surprise is that the
City of Saltford - as I predicted
some years ago, is realty
springing to life - making a real
come hack. •
With Betty and Bill Reid
working like fiends on that old,
old store at the main corner.
their "Village Store'' is the
spark that was needed.
1, noticed that everyone is
prettying up their places loads
of mess and junk has already
disappeared.
People will once more be
lining up for that big ice-cream
cone and other goodies to be•
found in the Village Store.
I believe that store must be
nearly a hundred years 1)1(1 -
couldn't find a date - perhaps.
someone can help me''
The- Reids want. to -keep -some
of the nostalgia about the place
but they just HAVE to have
everything new and clean to
show off their full line of
groceries, frozen foods, fresh
fruits and vegetables, nihhling
tuff and all t he other spur of
the moment things we need.
.The nicest thing they are
~rimng back is the ten cent ice
cream cone - oh - and the "-grab
hag" of penny candies, - at
'LEAST six Cents worth of fresh
candies for a nickel. How about
THAT? These young people
deserve a lot of credit - not only
an E for EFFORT ,but a big
star for bravery in tackling
such a tremendous job.
Their _opening day is today.
Thursday, and you are invited
to drop in, have a coffee and
do ut with them and cheer
them on a little. "I'he,' are
NICE people.
When 1 was in Venice
Florida, home or "stamping
grounds" of Ringlin' Bros. and
Barnum & Bailey, I REALLY
enjoyed watching this three
ring circus.
Our local Police Association
is working_to bring a very fine
circus group to Goderich on
June 4 - please mark your
calendar - as they are treating
the underprivileged, handicap-
ped and mentally retarded
children 'to this wonderful'
event.
No matter what your age
you can enjoy the circus and-,
they -are about to make sure the
children get this opportunity,-
"Help us help our Com -
Triunity" they, say - and this
gives us 'all a chance to help
one another. •
Your support of this event
will he appreciated by more
than you can ever know and
the Pillice Boys will call for
your donation if you cannot
drop it off at the office.
This way if you are unable to
TAKE a youngster to the BIG
SHOW at least you will feel
great about knowing he or she
made it. Do it NOW
Love,
Martha

Assistant Administrator 14
Rowe' attended the meeting
and outlined some of the needs
of the home. The urgent need
at the present time is a vehicle
such as a minibus that would
accommodate wheelchairs.
The Auxiliary decided to go
ahead with raising money for
the purchase of the vehicle as
the main project of the. year.
They 'hope to have the
assistance of other
organizations and people of
Huron County in this venture.
Rev: Dr. Mowatt of Clinton
showed colored slides of
Arizona on Family Night that
were taken by him and his wife
during their winter holiday. Dr.
Mowatts pictures and commen-
tary were very interesting with
several slides of the Grand
Canyons and flowering cactus.
Miss Pearl Gidley was
pianist for the sing a long and
also played several numbers at
the start of the program... Mrs.
Pai.slev, who t)'' the way lived
in Arizona for` seYet•al months 'a
few years ago, thanked, Dr.
Mowatt on behalf of the
residents.

wants Board
meetings open.
Huron County board of
education will be asked April
16 by one of i'ts members to
consider rescinding an October
1971 resolution and to return
to its original format of two
open meetings.
Mrs. Dorothy Wallace, a
Goderich representative on the
hoard, _gave _notice -of -motion
that she will ask that a
resolution organizing the hoard
into standing' committees be
rescinded.,
- She said the origjnal setup of
the board offered better com-
munic•ations among.,, members
and between the board and the
public•.
The original format,
established with 'the hoard in
January of 1969, called for two
monthly open meetings and
made provisions for committee
of the whole meetings and com-
mittee of the whole irt, camera
t%eet Ings. .
Since Ocltoher 1971, the
board has been operating under
five stafn(ling committees and
holding one open meeting a
month -- a system. that was
devise -d in an attempt to make'
fewer meetings /necessary for
members to attend..
