THURSDAY, APRIL 5, 1973 Ontario Dairy Princess Sherry Pollock of R R 4 Ripley visited Victoria Public School in Goderich on Monday afternoon and spoke to the students about Dairy products and about her position as Dairy Princetss. Here Miss Pollock is seen with students (left to right) Randy Stewart, Max Bourdeau and Dana Elsom, Randy and the Dairy Princess came to aquain- tance during her remarks to the school assembly when she asked if anyone knew who Mrs. Bill Stewart was, referring to the wife of the Ontario Minister of Agriculture who crowned Miss Pollock when she won the Princess title. Randy was one of the few who knew, but when asked informed the Princess that Mrs. Stewart would be his mother. Randy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stewart of Goderich Dana Elsom in- troduced the Princess to the school assembly and Max Bour- deau thanked her following the assembly. „ Dungannon WI hears district -reeve Dungannon W.I. met for .their April meeting' at Mrs. Mct''Ienaghan's on Thurs(.lav evening. Mrs. W. Rutledge opened the meeting with the ode and Mary Stewart Collect. The roll call. 'naive a member of local c•oun- ' was answered by names from several different councils because of r members come from different townships. The ,minutes and correspondence were dealt with and a letter from Mrs. Noblitt was read. Miss Iva (o'arr. convener of citizenship and World affairs, introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Bob Lyons, the reeve of West Wawanosh. Mr. Lyons - spoke of many' duties involved in being a. member of council. He explained the value of ur- ban and rural planning and development. He- mentioned several of the different and in- teresting committees on which he has served in the years he has has been on the council. Social Services, a new commit-: tee is proving to he ' of real assistance to the council, Mr. Lyons feels the Recreation corn mittee is important to the welfare of a community. ---Other • -services .and commit- tees mentioned included, fire protection, children's aid, hospital hoards,. Goderich Museum, Huronview,, and of course. keeping our roads in good condition. During the question period, which followed, the problem, of dogs destroying lawns and gar- dens, as well as frightening children was discussed. Mr. Lyons said stray dogs were an, expensive problem in rural areas also. Mrs. •George Errington thanked Mr'. Lyons for his very informative address and presented him, with a gift in appreciation. Zinn presided for -The installation ceremony. ,The new president, ,-Mrs Har- vey Alton, thanked the retiring president. Mrs. 'Wilbur Rutledge, and asked for the continuing support of the mem- bers. The W.I. quilt was on display. Tickets are to'be all in by the April meeting when the draw for it will be made. Mrs. Rutledge -thanked Mrs. McClenaghan for the use of her home and a lovely •lunch was served by hostesses, Mrs. L. Hasty, -1- Mrs. C. Finnigan and Mrs. W. CHESS CLUB NEWS In the last week of play Reinhardt Voelmle lost two of three games to drop into fourth position while Jim Weary won two of three games to wind up in fifth position in Level 1. In Level 2, pray, Ernie McMillan won five of seven games to take first position and Jim,Kingsley moved up into the last second level position. In Level 3, Ian Ross won his last game to advance from Leval 4 and John- Kane took first position. In Levet 4 -John Scanlan won the first place honours. The playoffs will begin April 4 with' undefeated, Charlie MacDonald playing Amedeo Andreini while Reinhardt V(ielnile and Jim Weary will haute it out in Quarter Final play. Clarke 'Peal will play the winner of the Quarter -Finals. In Level 2 semi-finals Ernie McMillan plays Torn McGill while Glen Wightman and Jim Kingsley a Quarter -final series. Kirk 1, radon will play the win- ner of the Quarter -Finals. The Level 3 semi-finals will be -John Kane, versus Harold Kloeze and the Quarter -finals will be Dennis Little versus Ian Ross with the winner playing Glen Falkiner. In Level 4 playoffs John Scarman will challenge Larry McDougall in the semi-finals while Rob Shrier and Laird Eisler will play in the Quarter finals. Rick Kingsley will play the winner of the Quarter - Finals. All series will be two out of three games.
