Dear Ann Landers: Three
years ago 1 gave birth to a
mongoloid child- 1 was verv,.i1j
for •several months after Mary
was born We had five other
children under ten years of age
and this sixth baby was too
much for me A state agency
found a wonderful foster home
fur little Mary The couple they
selected adored her.
Six months later 1 felt 1
could take care of Mary so wel,
brought her hurtle Within
weeks 1 had to admit she
demanded so 11111(•11 of rnj time
that I was neglecting the other
children. A mongoloid needs
special care in order to develop
to full potential. 1 hecarne.
-physically and enlot lima l ly
exhausted' and my husband in-
sisted ,that we take Mary hack
to her foster home.
They were thrilled to have
her -and she thrived under their
loving care. Last month they
begged us to let them `Legally
adopt her My husband and 1
discussed it at length and
agreed it would he best for all
concerned especially Mary.
Now I ani catching it from -
the relatives on both sides.
..How could you do such a
thing.,, they ask. "To give
aXav a legitimate child to
strangers is unthinkable'"
Although 1 know in my heart
we did the right thing. 1 feel
guilty. Incidentally, none of -the
relatives who are critit•izing us
offered to take Mary when I
was sick and unable to care -for
her. Please give me a few well -
worded sentences to. defend my
position- 1 feel defeated. A
.Mother
Dear Mother: You need more
than a few well -worded senten-
ces. You need counseling to rid
vours.elf of the guilt. The bur-
den of this difficult decision
was yours to make and' in my --
opinion you made the right one.
The relatives should keep their
noses out of it and you can tell
them I said so.
Dear Ann Landers: I haven't
spoken to my sister in eight
months, not since --she told ole
my hushand tried to get in-
timate with her when I was in
the hospital for surgery.
1 am r of one to suffer in
silence: That very night !asked
hint what went on. He said it
{.asn't the way she described it
at all: In fact, he claims some
of" the facts were twisted
around. completely.
1 love my husband very much
and we have had fourteen years
ut 21 good marriage. So far as I
know he has never lied to me. I
ant a nervous wreck over this
thing 1 Cry for no reason and
think about it a dozen times°a

nand'' ---Trust Shaken
Dear T : kour husband
deserves the benefit of any
doubt, based on his record of 14
(ars That sister of yours must
1s ibt aut.
If your depression continues
1 recommend counseling.
Talking out something that,
bothers you can be very helpful.
And forgiving your sister can
help. too.
Dear Ann Landers: ,re there
more nutty people running
•louse these days or does it just
•eero that way because of the
.peed of c'onlm niration? It

Ohio snapped his fingers 3,566

establishing a world's record. A
crowd of 350 gathered to watch
J itis' do it.
Wouldn't you think a person
could think of something more
constructive to do with his time
and energy`' Please comment. ---
Fed Up On Nonsense
Dear Fed: People usually en-
joy doing' what they do • best.
Perhaps this was the man's
greatest talent. What gets me is
that 350 people stood around to
watch him do it. THEY are the
nutty ones.
