Although there was no in- dication in open council session of the content of the letter, Fje Chief Ted Bisset appeared before council to outline the fire safety factors relating to "Suncoast Building Products new location on South Street". According to the committee minutes, Chief Bisset said "the area is as safe or safer than previous business operation and the owner is taking every measu'he to meet fire safety regulations"., * :+ Lawyer Mac'Ewan Egener was on hand at last Thursday's council meeting to put it "on record" that a great number of citizens 'in the south end ..of Goderich "have -objected to the decision regarding- the finan- cing of the South Storm Sewer. "They -,,are considering some action to appeal it," Egener. ,reported to council. A petition was presented to Tcivgn , C.otinci1t, in Februar',t signed by 352 persons in the southern portion of Goderich who . protested Qcouncil's decision to finance the project under The Drainage Act rather than through the (general Levy. * * Mrs. J.W. Wallace urged Goderich Town Council at its last meeting to make a sub- mission to the Railway Com- mission asking for the return -of passenger service from Strat- ford to Goderich, She said the Canadian Tran- sportation- -C-orrrmission had requested, views on improved rail service. She suggested that Town Council submit brief asking for a train from Goderich in the morning which would make connections with the morning out -going train in Stratford; and a train to (;Goderich in the evening making connections with the in -coming evening trains in Strat- for21i-"instead of the useless yet, -up we had before". Councillor Frank Walkom said that five years ago, a corn prehensive acid thoughtful presentation had been made to a transportation commission by the late Ken Hunter on behalf of Town Council. Councillor Walkom said that • Mr.. Hunter .had claimed that the great amount of freight traffic out of Goderich each year should help to offset• any financial loss' for passenger trains in and out of 'Goderich. "I still believe that," added Walkom. T * * A fire agreement , has been reached with Goderich- Town- ship. Deputy -reeve Stan Profit made the presentation to town council, Goderich "Township Council will pay a retainer of $500 and a fee of $100 for the first hour of fire -fighting and $50 each hour thereafter. The agreement, in effect until' December 31, 1974, will, he re- negotiated every two years. * * -k The indecision over the Tourist Information Booth has been resolved. The minutes of. the March 8 committee meeting of Council revealed that the 'Town of God 'rich will purchase - the building from Goderich Building Centre. The price? 1t's $3,000. A parcel of land 2(0) feet by 200 Jeet immediately east of'the Public Works garage' owned by the Town of Goderich has been offered for 'Sale to Imperial Oil for the sum of $7,000. Imperial Oil will be respon- sible for all expenses to service this piece of property. * Y The Administ rat ive `Commit- tee has been reviewing ap- plications for a junior accoun- tant_ at the Municipal Office.
