I asked her just how she, Mrs. Havdon and the rest of the residents on Warren 'St: would appreciate having Yo ',for the Warren St. Storm Sewer, that will ser-, vice their .homes, all on their own. The only answer she 'gave me was, "That's different." Now fellow tax pavers, please tell me why part of my taxes, under General i.evv should go to help pay for a Storm Sewer that will -go right past the homes.of Mrs. Palmer and Mrs. Havdon, hut" none of their tax money is going to help me Pay for the South Storm Sewer un- der the Drainage Act. I believe 115 a capable coach this decision could have been made long before game time. When word was received from the ('R(' that Roy Ronisteel would be unavailable as 0 special speaker due to an assignment in Cuba, it was learned that Peter Flemington was ready and .willing to step into the breach. While the - name of Peter Flemington is not nearly- so well known as Roy Ronisteel, it was evident that as writer and director of the World Develop- ment Films for Man Alive,• Flemington would he a very suitable stand-in for Ronisteel. As Rev. Garwood Russell ex- pressed it. "After. all, Peter Flemington was right there. He was on the scene in the Philip- -pines and saw the people,. -the c•ountrrv, the problems.'. People everywhere . are becoming increasingly more in- terested, informed and in- volved: they have wishes, preferences and clear directions wwhic-11 tfiev expect to see respec•- ted, not just tolerated. • Any body of representatives or com- 11111rlit\' X' owe s11r1i as a nt•wspaper who is slow in ac- cepting this fact is experiencing the discomfort ()f creating its own credibility gap. Elsa Havdon Old Man Winter blew. his final gust of cold and snow at Goderich and area last weekend leaving motorists sitranded everywhere. On Saturday and for some of Sunday, Ontario Provincial Police warned motorists to stay off the roads unless it was absolutely necessary to travel. After spring-like weather for the past few weeks, snow clearing crews were uth- pMpared -for the major storm which crippled the district, but managed an admirable cleaning job once the winds and the snow had subsided.
