Legion Novice All -Stars
in third round playoffs
The Novice All -Stars, who
are sponsored by Branch 109 of
the Royal Canadian Legion,
begin their O.M.H.A. third
round district final playoff
series here this Saturday at
7:110 p.ri against Stoneybrook.
All the other Goderich Minor
Hockey Association' all-star
teams have been eliminated
from 0.M,H.A. playoffs in .the
first round this season, leaving
the Legion team as the only one
for provincial

Stoneybrook, which is a Lon-
don area team, defeated St.
MIarys two games to one in
their. 'last playoff series to

'Stonevhrook coach, Dave
Evans, is a former Goderich
resident and graduate of
Goderich Collegiate, and
reports that he is looking for-
ward to meeting Goderich in
the playoffs.
The second game -in the best
of three series will be played
Sunday at 5:110 p.m. in London
at the ('arling Arena. •
The third game, if necessary,
will be played On Sunday
March 1t•;, with thelocation
depending on a flip of the coin.
In the meantime, coaches

exhibition- games while they
were waiting for the- outcome of
the Stonevhrook - St. Marys
series.
Friday night the Goderich
tearnk defeated Lucknow. the
first place ' finishers in their
league, 7-0. in Lucknow.
The Legionnaires:- all
exhibited a good effort, with
the checking of all three for-
ward lines being a feature of
the game.
Defensemen Danny Maillet
and Mike Hodges each scored
two goals to lead the rout.
'Larry Madge:' Robert
McDonald and Larry Boyce got
the other goals. Mark Rowe,
Jim Costello, Alan Bakker and
Larry Madge were credited
with assists.
On Sunday, here, the Legion
came up with another strong ef-
fort, shutting out Seaforth 5-0.
Five different players scored
for Goderich. Robert
McDonald, .Larry Boyce, Jim
,Costello, Mark Rowe and Larry
Madge each scored once.
Stuart Crew, Larry Madge,
Danny Maillet and Robert
McDonald had assists.
Goaltenders Stephen Gallow
and Harold Sartori shared the
shutout in Lucknow' while
Gallow went the. distance to
record the shutout against
Seaforth.
1,200 will vote on liquor
Voters in Goderich township
will not only be,going to .t he
polls March 1.5 to elect .a new
MPP but will vote again April
25 on a liquor plebiscite.
The township council receni-
tly received permission to use
the voter + lists prepared for the
by --elections to save time and
money _on the vote.
Last month the township
received a petition signed by
the necessary 25 per cent of the
eligible voters requesting the
plebiscite'
The vote will ask for a ruling
on three liquor issues. The sale
of Neer and wine only under a
di'tl1ng room licence ( w it h
meals), sale of liquor under a
dining room' licence (with
►HeaIs) and t he sale of liquor
under a lounge licence.
A total of 1,200 voters will be
eligible to take part in the
plebiscite.

Ontario Government's pur-
chase of 119 acres of lakefront
land near -Hayfield will provide
another major attraction for
tourists to Huron, as well as
prime recreational land for
Huron residents, Humin PC
candidate Don southcott said
this week.
The Ministry of Natural
Resources estimates the former
Stinson ,farm has the potential
for 150-200 campsites, plus 51)0
parking places for day. -use pie -
nicking and, swimming.
Possible winter uses include
snowshoeing and natural ice
pond for skating.

cludes 1,500 feet of frontage on
Lake Huron which normally
provides an excellent sand
beach. Approximately, one-
third of the land is wooded.
The 119 acres was purchased
for $125,000 from a London
firm which had planned to
develop a private cottage
development along the
Lakeshore. The firm previously
was the successful bidder for
the property last fall in an auc-
tion sale conducted by the
Surrogate Court.
Last parcel of undeveloped
Iakeshore. land south of
'Bayfield has now been preser-
ved for public use.
Action to secure the property
was prompted by Ausable
I3ayfjeld Conservation
Authority, Stanley Township
Council and Charles
MacNaughton, former MPP for
Huron. '

second game of their best of
three semi-final.
The first gable was tied :1-3

Holmesville broke the game
open with 14 unanswered goals
in the second period.
Pete Postill, John Cosgrove
and Robin Gates led'

Bill Steenstra and Bill
