These three Girl Guides were honored recently in a, cord
, presentation ceremony at Knox Presbyterian Church,,Left to
righl are, Cindy Fisher, who received the Canada Cord,
Brenda Thompson, who received the Gold Cord and Sally
Stringer who also received the Gold Cord. The two girls will
be among the last in Canada to receive the Gold Cord as the

Province buys lakefron
site near Bayfield
The provincial government
and an unidentified London
resident have reached a set-
ttement in the province's en-
deavoiir to purchase a I 19-a`cre
piece of lakefront land near
Hayfield, for future develop-
ment as a park.
The negotiations un the
property, which began shortly
after the landwas purchased•at
an estate auction, were com-
pleted around Dcember, the
Atisable Hayfield Conservation

heard the news only in the past
few days but did not know the
details of the settlement, in-
cluding the price the govern-
ment had agreed to pay." -The

land, known as the Stinson

some time. In the estate auc-
tion last summer, the authority
participated in the bidding but
had to withdraw when it ap-
peared that the bidding would
go beyond the limit approved
by the authuritv's executive
committee.
The land has ahout 1,500 feet
of 'frontage on Lake Huron and,
the authority had wanted to
develop it as a public
recreation area. The tract of
land was believed to have sold
