Gov't using polides
laid down by Union
For many years farmers have
been "asking" governments for
help. It wasn't until the N.F.U.
arrived on the scene that far -
tilers received many of the
things they needed.
The National Farmers Union
.is the one and only national
farmer controlled, direct mem-
ber organization for farmers in
Canada.
In comparison the Canadian
Federation of Agriculture is
made up of Provincial
Federations each Province in-
terested mainly in if3 own
selfish needs. A national farm
policy would be impossible to.
achieve in this organization.
Recently, the Quebec farm
-orkatiTzatio, delegates
disagreed with the (ianadian
Federation at their convention
and walked out. Now,
Manitoba and Alberta hog
systems are competing for
Japanese markets. This can
only benefit Japan's marketing
power.

Because of the national
structure of the Farmers Union,
governments are now using
policies laid down by the Far-
:. finers Union. Some of these
policies are
A two price system for wheat,
guaranteeing a domestic price
to Ontario producers of $3.00
per bushel.
Deficiency payment on hogs
($5.00 each).
A 25% rebate on farm taxes,
as a result of petition and
money N.F.U. members
withholding property taxes.
Special consideration by
labour unions to keep grain
moving during strikes at
wgstelit,,,,ports, _, ,
Inputs, such as fertilizer and
twine in 'bulk shipments at
greatly reduced prices.
An N.F.U. grains policy will
probably be adopted.
The Federation recommen-
ded value on egg quota with no
ceiling as to amount of quota
held by any one producer,
which would encourage vertical
integration. The N.F.U. recom-
mended no value on quota with
a limit on amount held by any
one producer. Policy was made
for egg producers on N.F.U.
recommendations.
