During January, clinic's were conducted in Stratford andfi Exeter to refresh teachers in hask•tball, volleyball and wrestling skills. A series of gymnastic worshops,,hegan at the end mi :January at St. James S`t•hoo1 in Seaforth. Teachers are able to discuss the IhriMkkaphWif4ort he t I u e'<if'ln nasties in their program and also they can take an active participation in but only the teaching of' these skills but share in a practical in- volvernent in these workshops. Mr. Brian Annahle from St. Clements Separate School at St. Clements, conducted the first two clinics, the one at Seaforth and t he second on Wednesday night, February 7, at St. Boniface School in Zurich: 'Teachers from Exeter, Clinton, Seaforth, Zurich and from tJsb(ine Central attended this practical refresher course. Gymnastics should be a vital activity in physical fitness training. l;esi(les building up strength ands power, gymnastics also contributes to other factors of physical fitness such as agility, flexibility, co-ordination and balance. (Gymnastic's has special meaning as a sport. The emphasis is placed on co- ordination and skill. Students whose capabilities and size may not fit them for contact sports can find. in gymnastics a satisfaction of competition and -the thrill of accomplishment in a skillful physical activity. Children from the Huron- - Perth Counties will he invited later ro demwnstra1e t hese acquired skills at various tour- naments to be held later in the R.C.S.S. System. At Zurich. St. Boniface School Mr. Annable demon- strated basic rolls, hand and head balances along with the art of working with a partner and in groups., Brian em- phasized the creative aspects; as there are many' routine ways of body skills and as many more with an imaginative ap- proach. The workshops continue at St. Mary's School in Goderich on Wednesday February 21 at 7 p.m. and St. Colurnban on February 22. A gymnastics competition involving all the separate schools in Huron and Perth Counties will be held later in April. .A special budget 'meeting of the Goderich Recreation and Community Centre Board was held on Tuesday February 13. The 1973 Administration budget is estimated. • to be $16,468. A $40.00.a month car allowance for the Director is requested in this budget. The Arena Midget. was discussed and it. was recom= mended that the Arena Manager keeti a mileage sheet, payable at 1 ) cents per mile. in the Pool budget, prices on a ne roof and underlay are to be ‘investigated by the Director. The playground budget is a. new part of the system and will provide organized: activities at four locations' in town (hiring the summer months, with two staff members •at each location and one over-all leader.
