If just a dozen of your millions of readers listen --and half of them take the advice --I will feel amply rewarded. Here's my sermon: If you cannot refrain from drinking, start a saloon in your own home. Purchase a generous supply of your favorite, whiskey or wine. Be the only paying customer and you will not need to buy a license. A gallon of- good fgood whiskey or wine will cyst about $24. There are 128 sliots in a gallon. Buy all your drinks from your wife at 80c a shot. In four days, when the gallon is gone, your wife will have made a profit of $78 to put in the bank and $24 to buy another gallon. If you live ten years and buy alt your booze from your wife and then die with sakes in your boots and pink elephants on the ceiling, she will have about $71,000 on deposit. This is enough for her to give you a respectable funeral, send the kids to college and marry a decent man and forget she ever knew you. ---Canadian Fan Dear Fan: Thanks for . the sermon. Your arithmetic is right but .your logic is faulty. While many bogzers will drink alone, a. large Jnumbek go to bars for the companionship they do not find 'at 'home. If W. J. Dear Ann Landers: You've mentioned "funny uncles" and other male relatives, especially stepfathers, who molest young children. In my book, you are very courageous for doing this. But you failed to instruct mothers on how to warn their children against these sick people. There's a "funny uncle" in our. family; but., tray husband is, afraid if I warn our two young daughters (6 and 9 years old) they might tell him and I'd be in real trouble. How about some further guidance, Ann'? -- Mid -Stream Dear Mid: All young children, boys as well as girls, should be told early (four years of age is not too soon), that they "must not accept candy, money or rides with strangers and that they mast never allow anyone, a stranger or a member of the family, to touch the private ,parts;, -of their bodies. Children should be instructed to tell the parents at once if anyone suggests "games" of this nature. I agree with your husband that your daughters should not be warned against any par- ticular member of the family, but they should receive explicit briefing so they will be alert to ALL funny uncles, whoever they may be. Dear A,nn Landers: My husband and I have been married for five years and we get along fine, but I'm frozen with fear that he will walk out on. me. The problem is my parents. Every few weeks ,we get a' call from the road--thev'are on the way. We have a guest room, so of course they stay with us. My husband has, a fuH-time job and is ' also working on his Ph.D. He resents the intrusions and I don't blame him. Don't suggest that we tell my parents straight away that they give us notice. We did it two years ago and they refused to speak to us for 11 months. Quo vadis?---Sitting_ Ducks. Dear Ducks: My advice costs money, but it will be worth it. The next time your parents call from the road tell them you were just leaving and to please give you some notice next time. Then pack an overnight bag and spend the night in a nearby motel. If you do this two or. three times you won't be such sitting ducks. • The Huron County Junior Farmers' met on January 31 at 8:30 p.m. in the OMAF office at Clinton. We invest money to make money, so that we can lend money. It's that simple. But, all of it isn't worth a plugged nickel if some- one doesn't use it. Which brings us to you. And, hopefully you to us if you're thinking about a loan. Now, the person you'll see at our place • isn't some kind of financial ogre. He won't try to put you down, sure you down, or check the heels on your shoes. But most important, he wants to give you that loan. That's one of the ways he makes his money. So you just tell him how much, how. fnuch you can afford each month, then it's up to him to work it out. And without getting you in over your head. 'And, that's it. ' No red tape. No - edge about asking. You see, we feel two heads are better than one. We figure if two people set out to achieve goals, they might come a little easier. Your goals, and our goals. So with a Commerce Bankplan loan; you get more than money. You get a working partnership for achieving goals. ' And that gives us stilt another edge -over other banks. Besides taking the edge off asking in the first place. - SI The Square Goderich * FRIGIDAIRE • WESTINGHOUSE' * GIRSON • HOOVEk Sales. and "service JEWELL .BROTHERS PRODUCTS HOME, FARM, INDUSTRY * Free Burner Saralee * Fence Flniiincing * G asolinee S Diesel Fuels 5244681 OR 529.7524 HES 1 sty ht ' !i
