After watching that pitiful exhibition of hockey last . Saturday
night I wondered why the public could not he entertained -by one
of the more interesting games going on.
I would prefer the television networks to select the games to he
shown on a week -to -week basis. That is, the networks would
decide in a week's advance, what ganc would likely he the most
interesting.
The NBC network follows this procedure for its programming on
baseball games and I feel it is far superior to a system that
literally crams the Toronto Maple Leafs down your throat week
,,after week - and that can he awfully sickening, especially when
they're having a rotten year like 1972.
For instance, this coming Saturday, the people of Goderich will
sit around the T.V. set to watch the N.Y. Islanders and the
Toronto Maple Leafs in what looks to he the "Yawn Bowl" of
1972-73.' Whereas, if the CBC had varied coverage on a week -to -
week basis - we could see 1 oston at Minnesota (we'd all like to
see what Sandersons doing) , Buffalo at Pittsburgh (both of whom
are involved in dog fights for playoff positionA in. their respective
divisions) or Chicago at St. Louis and Atlanta at L.A. las a late-
night doubleheader treat):
Certainly. the N.H.I.. has to reach an agreement with the CBC
• and CTV whereby the teaTns covered .are not strictly Canadian
because the league is expanding so fast. no one can learn all the
players names and this is something that is missing from the
current thought on N.H.L. bind W.H.A.) hockty
Congratulations to the Intermediate "Sailors';•- who soundly
defeated Seaforth 7-2 in the first garne of their semi-final hest -of -
seven series .e..
The CHI1L is seeing a real battle between Bayfield and
Holmesville for that final playoff berth. I'm cheering for Bayfield
of course - since .1 play for them. t know they'll come through.
Since I've sprained my tinkle, the trade price has dropped to one
broken crutch and a 'piece of are wran .... See you next Week„
