'c) The main purpose of law
is not, or in an allegedly
'civilized country' ought not
only to be to protect society and
v punish the offender - it should
also be to rehabilitate and
reclaim the offender. We're
speaking of the Gospel 'The
Good News of God's love" in
Jesus -Christ'. It is impossible
to present this Good News to a
person, offering them healing
or salvation, after ';you have
snuffed out the life at the end
of a rope, or in a gas chamber
or by any other means. If we
haven't learned anything' from
the generations of violence, and
indeed especially the last few
weeks of violence as • we. have
seen it in Southeast Asia then
we are slow learners beyond
imagination. I am not saying
that people who don't agree
with me are sub -Christian or
less Christian than.I am. I am
simply saying -- This where
Christ and my own intelligence

that Capital Punishment be

alternatives be established to
deal with the problem. Surely
we who technologically have

also judging ourselves."
