Heywood said. he'd written a
song about. the Huron County
"jailhouse" sometime ago but
had never recorded it.
Another of Heywood's com-
positions - an alburb about the
Black Donnelly clan from the
I,tgcan area - .has created con-
siderable interest in that part
of the country. He said Lucan
and area people are delighted
with the recognition the album
has brought their area g,,and
Heywood noted that "Donnelly
Days" may become an annual
festival in Lucan as a result of
the record's success.
He, stated that if the matter
was "opened up" in Huron
County, he weep anticipate ex-
cellent public interest for the
preservation of the jail walls.
In Wingham, Heywob"d "stiid,
"there's a lot of interested
people". The jail, said
Heywood, does not belong to
-Goderich. It is a Huron County
building and it is time the
county was "preserving some of
our old history".
Meanwhile in Goderich,
volunteers are busy circulating
a 'petition which asks that the
jail walls be left intact. What is
described as "overwhelming
support" for the petition has
been discovered and workers
are hopeful that several
thousand names will be at-
tached to the petition in
Goderich alone.
Persons who wish to sign the
petition and have not been ap-
proached to do so, will find
copies in bah laundromats, the
IGA store and Bygone An-
tiques
on the Square.
The petition, however, is not
appearing , in Goderich only.
Workers are , being enlisted
throughout the entire county
'and . the petition will touch
every municipality in Huron in
an attempt to get the opinion of
complete cross-section of the
ratepayers.,
Students, in all five high
s hoots in the county are being
briefed on the matter, and
petitions similar to the petition
circulated at GDCI and presen-
ted to county council last
Friday, Will be encouraged.

Plans are to cut away a•por-

assessment building to the east.
Alternative suggestions have
been made to county council.
They are to purchase property
to' the west of the present

Town of Goderich for parking
on Gloucester Terrace so that
the addition can be bat to the
north of the present assessment
