The golfing class at GDCI night school works'in the small gym every Monday evening. The
mesh screen at the right of the picture catches the balls as they are "driven" by the gblfers.
The setup includes a makeshift tee where plenty of personal attention is given by Izzy
Bedard, the instructor and himself a °vweli-known, hl'gti1y respected 'golfer. (staff photo)

This is the third year
that Izzy Bedard. of
Goderich has been
teaching GDCI Night
School students the art
of the swing in golf. And
judging from the en-
thusiastic comments
about . Izzy's program, it
won't be his last.
Izzy is well-known
locally for his golfing
ability but his talentsas
a teacher are also
recognized by the mem
.bers of his regular Mon-
day evening golfing
class at GDCI.
"He's just a natural,"
reports one would-be
golfer who claims he's
learned a great deal
about the sport through
Izzy's night school
program. . "He not -only
knows how it should be
done, he isr able to show
you how .you can do it
yourself. He's great."
The course attracts
many first-time golfers
or golfers who are inex-
perienced and want to
improve their swing. It
teaches how to hold the
club, how to position the
feet, the importance of
the arm and the wrist,
placing the ball.
Later in the course,
lzzy takes the group to a
golf course and instructs

them in the general rules
of the game. But for the
most part, the swing is

S.afety
tips
The., best way to avoid per-
sonal injury is to do every job
properly, at work and at home.
The Industrial Accident
Prevention A sociation's
52,000 membms have one
million employees who will
"Zerb In One Proper Job Per-
formance" during 1973.
I.A.P.A. is urging
management to adopt the
premise that the best way to
avoid injury, equipment
damage or any other type of
Toss is to convince employees
that a job performed properly is
a job performed . safely.
This, principle prompted
I.A.P.A.' s theme --- Zero In On
Proper .Job Performance.
To assist industry with the
1973 safety program, I.A.P.A.
provides a wide variety of
promotional items, including
posters, banners, cafeteria
placemats, serviettes, and
ballpoint pens.
Stick -on mini -posters -
featuring the "Zero In" theme
are also available in a handy
2" x 1" size, as a constant
reminder to employees to Zero
In on safe procedures on the
..job. .
The ' I.A.P.A. member -firms
have more than 1,000,000 em-
ployees in, Ontario. •
• These contesta have peen
sponsored since 1927 by the
Ontario . Public School
Trustees' Association andco-
g;ponsored since 1958 by On-
tario.. Hydro. The provincial
finals take place in .Toronto
during the convention of`'the
Ontario Education Association
ih the week of winter break.
In recognition of the current
Emphasis on communication in
our society the format of these
contests has been changing to
put more Emphasis ' on com-
munications skills rather than
on Oratory. Last year for the
first time the contestants were
subjected to questioning by the
judges on the s, abjects of the
prepared, talks so that t-
hey -are
being judged on their ability to-
infoMn, explain and instruct.
This.. year in addition each
contestant will be expected to
read for two minutes from a
book which he' . has enjoyed.
Reading aloud has been an art
neglected for many years. It
Will be interesting to see how
dtr young people .handle this
challenge.
The Huron County Convener,-
Elementary Schools; Mrs. J. W.
Wallace and the principals of
eabh of the ` hostschools
welcome the attendance and in-
terest of the public at these con-
tests. ...,,...
