WITHOUT EMOTION.
Some statesmen and writers
favour abolition of the death
penalty for murder:. (It is likely
their families have not yet
sustained a loss from criminal
action.) They_writ'e and talk as
if it_ were a _generous._.civilized,
-and-enlightened--thing -to--Liu.
Whereas the opposite is ac-
tually the case! When weighing
a matter of so grave a nature,
the question is not "What
should I do about it?" but
rather, "What has God decreed
should be done?" The person
,who sides with God on this
issue can do so without fear or
emotion. Simply because God
has decreed: "Whose sheddeth
man's blood,. by man shall his
blood be. shed for in the image
of God made He man."

No matter which translation of the
Bible we examine, one fact stands
out with particular emphasis and
clarity: The Bible was written for the
people, for the populace at large, not
for some special class among them.
St. Paul addressed his epistles to
both "laity" and "clergy": "To a//
that be in Rome". (Rom: 1:7), "unto
the cburch,..at Corinth...with all that
in every place call upon the name of
Jesus Christ our Lord" °1! Cor. 1:2),
"unto the churches of Ga lat ia (Gal,
1:2), "to all the sants...at Philippi`,
with the bishops and deacons" (Phil.
1:1),etc.
. When Paul proclaimed the gospel
at Berea his hearers did ..not. take
even this great apostle's word for
granted, but "'searched the Scriptures
daily, whether those things were so,'"
and for.this God called them "'noble"
