Other day I suggested a 'arra. I.
yg
asked my pupils to pretend they
were Ann Landers `giving advice
to parents,, on how to raise
children, itwas. amazed at their
prelcacioua . wisdom. Here are
some.of the best suggestions for
whatever use you wish. to make
of .them.
1. Don't give me everything I.
ask for. Sometimes I am just
testing you. to see how much I
can get,
2 -Don't always be giving er.
dere. If you suggest something
instead ofgiving a command I
will do It faster.
3. Don't keep changing your
mind. about what you. want me
to do. Make up your mind and
stick to it.
4, Keep promises. Both'. good
and bad. If you promise a
reward make sure you give it to.
me. If you promise a punieh-
ment, make sure I get that, too.
5. Don't compare me with
anybody else, especially a
brother or sister. If you make
mf► off to hr. hcttar or smarter,
somebody gCti hurtIf make
114,0 to be worse . or .
then I get hurt.
. 6. Let Me do 40 ml ch. for
)myself as. I can. That'r!'h .civ I
learn. If you do everytbIh, for
me I will never bei able,' t 1 elq
anything. for :myeelf a "
7. Don't correct my mistakes
in front of. other, people, Tell‘ me
how to inaProve when nob ' is
arbun .- T,
MakesDon't scream' at 'Hole, It
Makes me" scream back and I
don't want to be a screamer.
9. Don't tell lies in front of.me
or ask me to tell lies to help you
out. It -makes me think less of
you and less of myself, even,if I
am supposed to‘be doing you a
favor.
10. When I do something
wrong don't. try to get me ta•`tell
you WHY I did it,. Sometimes I
don't know why.
11. Don't pay too much atten-
tion to me when I say I have a
stomach ache. Playing sick can
be a good way to; get -out of
doing things I don't. want to" do
or going' places I doh' t. want to

Sorority will blitz town
Wednesday for arthritis ld
Sponsored by Beta Theta -
Ch Ater of Beta Sigma Phi
Sorority, - a small army of
volunteer canvassers from the
Coderich.District Collegiate In-
stitute will be "blitzing" the
town on Wednesday evening in
an attempt to improve this
community's support of the
program of The Canadian Ar-
thritis and . Rheumatism
Society. r ,
Mrs.. Joseph 'Craig, Chair-
man of the Services Committee
of the local Chapter is heading
the Sorority's 1972 health ser-
vices project -and will have the
active participation of all mem-
bers in co-ordtnating the efforts
of the G.D.C.I. students for the
2 -hour one evening canvass.

and youthful energy being
devoted by the Collggiate
students will be abundantly
rewarded with the generosity of
Goderich citizens in sharing the
spirit of Christmas by helping
to improve health delivery ser-
vices to sufferers from painful
crippling arthritis.
This is the first all-out can-
vass of the community by
C.A.R.S. whose professional

services over the past several
years,. and specialized hospital
facilities in' London, have
benefitted dozens of local .ar-
thritics who are referredby
their physicians. -
The', campaign objective is
$1000 or a modest 15c for every
man, woman and child in
Goderich. In recent years sup-
port of the community has
dwindled to less than '8 cents
per capita while such com-
munities as Parkhill and
Wyoming have contributed- 75c
', and 25c per capita, respectively,
in 1971.
With the help' of the local
Sorority and students the aim
of this year's door-to-door can-
vass on December 13 is to give
every citizen an
op yturt'yto
"
PWoiAnathee at against this
fling disease and, until it is
brought under control, to en-
sure that its victims are
provided with the highest stan-
dards of care.
Statistics show that arthritis
affects more than a million and
a 'half Canadians and that close
to one-half million dollars in
wages are lost annually due to
the inability of its victims to
work. This is a. staggering loss
to the Canadian economy and
one which is' reflected in this
area, thus it is vital that the
Arthritis Society's program of
patient -care services and
research be rapidly expanded.
Expansion, however, depends
directly upon support received
from the public.
While local patient care is
regularly being provided in
Goderich from the Society's
' Regional office in London •and
at no cost to the referred
patient, many others require
the more intensive long-term
rehabilitation facilities of the
C.A.R.S. co-sponsored
