The Goderich Signal-Star, 1972-12-07, Page 23ql' t It is very fitting especially during this. Advent season that. there is a movement among the churches to get back to the real mission of the Christian Church, why was Jesus born? Why did God send His only Son into the world? Paul says, "This iz '4 faithful saying and Worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came• • into the world 'to psave sinners." And, of course,, we are all sin-, vers. This was the message of the early church. Millions have. been saved because of this type of preaching. But for, a long time the message has been watered down, and the church has not been the force it might have been. Now there is a plea. to the ministers to, call the p teoyl{ lleeyt a repentance, entance, same ,c 1 1 Perhaps before we embark upon this campaign to bring the people back to the old time religion of repentance and salvation, we ministers should do some real soul . searching. Revival must begin in one's own heart before we try to win others. Let us look at Isaiah. He had a vision of The Throne. of God. He heard the voice of God. God wanted a man to speak to His people about their sin. God, was asking "Whom shall I send? Who will go for me?" Isaiah felt the call, and an- swered "Here am .I send me." But Isaiah had to confess, "I am a man of unclean lips". -But God cleansed the lips with 'a live coal from off the Altar. A Symbol of the Blood of Christ as applied to our sinful. hearts. So then the preacher must confess his own unrighteousness and receive the Salvation from The Lord, before he can go to others. Then we have Amos. He too, heard the call orn God to9 g to the people _ d warn them of their sins. Am, : was untrained, but he ptrssesse - traits that are sadly lackin in many .hearts. Amos was man of deep humility. Thi is a must for any- preac o dares to proclaim.-, God'% Word, Amos, confessed,."I am only a herdsman and a gatherer of fruit. But, my God called me, and sent me as I followed the flock." (Amos,7-14) Jesus chose His Disciples from a humble calling, but their secret was in being on in- tinrate 'terms with their Master. So the preacher of today, if he is to call his people to repreh- • Lance, must fist of all know' Jesus s Christ' ts Saviour and Lord, and be in daily com- - " tnu pion with -Him There is much" false teaching in the world today. The Bible has been under attack, but it is still God's. Word, any departure from it tr i s wi , only i s u h !l n y bring misery doubt and despair. • Jesus said many years ago, I am come that they might have life; and have it mare abundan- tly." May we all search our hearts in the light of God's word, and not lean upon some others' theories in this vital matter of' Salvation unto Eternal life. Ugan4ansre helped - Funds totalling $73,000 are being made available to 12 committees which have been established across the country to assist the Uganda Asians set- tling in Canada. The committees are com- posed of federal and provincial government representatives as well as representatives of established voluntary agencies , and the Asian community. The committees, formed by the Department of the Secretary of State in. cooperation with the. Department of Manpower and Immigration and provincial authorities, ' will receive amounts that will vary accor- ding to the number of Uganda Asians settling in each cdm- rnunity. In cooperation with Canada ' Manpower Centres and • the field staff of the Department of the Secretary Qf State, the com- mittees have been providing such essential services as fin- ding employment, and accom- modation, an information ser- vice, social activities and orien- tation programs on life in Canada. Orientation programs will become a more. important aspect of the committees' work' once the immediate . needs of the immigrants are .met. Most of the newcomers have arrived without money or warm clothes and with few possessions. As furnished accommodation is hard to find in many areas, the committees have been collec- ting „ furniture and kitchen equipment. Along with these problems, there is a general need in all cities to find per- manent accommodation. Funds currently being sup- plied tothe Uganda Asian com- mittees are. for a .six month period only. Following this, the work of the committees will be reviewed to determine if fur- ther programs are required. 1n his' special Christmas re ssage, Com mi ssione r C.D. Wiseman, leader of phi Salvation Army In Canada, .suggests that probably the vision of The Army most people have , at Christmas is of carollers singing and playing in the streets, and Christmas ket- 'tles into which money is thrown to help the poor! • Y There is deep and grateful appreciation for the -way generous Canadians support The Army the year 'round, but the Commissioner hopes The Army's presence will represent more .than kettles and carols! "We want people to listen again to the original Christmas carols" the Commissioner states in his message. "More than ever before J he world needs to hearae nd heed the, angel chruso , "Glory ,oto God' in" the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward en". "UntillC od is recognized as 'the Highest' there can't be true, peace in the world. We• worship at the altars of hedonism, sex, alcohol, material possessions. For multitudes these things force God out to the margins' of living. In fact, many barely give Him a thought from one year's end to another," he said. "The tragedy is that. when WILLIAMS CEMETERY MEMORIALS • And Inscriptions Stratford Ontario ; Bob McCallum Repre'sentative 65 Montreal St., Goderich Phone 524-7345 ,r McCallum funeral Ho Combria.
