. A. CURE FOR COUGHS.
There is no remedy that makes as

its curative effects are prempt and last

Pumpkins.
When the pastures begin to fail in late
summer, The Western Farmer advises
that the pumpkin crop be drawn on for
a supplemental ration. It is not neces-
sary • "to wait until they ripen, as they
seem about as valuable when green as
when ripe and will do much to keep up
the flow of milk in the dairy. When
beginning to feed the pigs new corn, also
feed them liberally of the pumpkins.
This will keep them in good condition,
counteracting feverish inclination of the
corn, aiding digestion and apparently, in
a medicinal way, warding off disease,
many clai'mieg that a herd of pigs that
can have all the pumpkins they will eat
are safe from cholera or swine plague.
While this may be too great•a claim, it
is undoubtedly true that they will not
be so apt to contract disease, By a little
care, such as covering the pile with straw
or putting them into a Warne corner of
the barn, pumpkins may be kept quite
up to the holidays in good feeding condi-
tien.
