Monday's snowfall. Was the first sign and then the clincher
came when Public Works and P.U.C. crews took to the Square
installing Christmas lights. Ready or not it looks like Decem-

You might ask,"Why do you
want to be a Councillor for the
town of Goderich?"
There are many reasons why
s one would decide to offer oneself
to the electors.
One reason would be that one •
thinks that he knows what the
people want and desire.
I was born and raised here in
Goderich and have lived most. of
• 'my life here. I attended •Public
and High School here in
Goderich and I am presently
taking extension courses at the
University of Western Ontario. I
know what it is like not to be
able to find • .employment in
Goderich• after graduation from
High,School and have to go to
the city to find work.

want to live in Goderich and be
employed in Goderich; but, at
this time, that is impossible.,
Hopefully, in the not too, distant ,
future they will be able to find
that employment here in
Goderich.
I •am presently employed -by
Dominion Road Machinery
Company Ltd. where I am an
expeditor working in inventory
control. Previous to this I was
employed in banking 'where I
rose to an accountant position.
As an Executive Officer of the
Goderich and District Labor
Council, I hear about the labor
conditions and prospects in and
around Goderich: I also hear
many of the things that are
bothering many of the electors
of Goderich.
There are many things that I
feel could be done. At the
moment, I would say the most
important item tocome' before
Council in 1973 will be the
"New Zoning By -Law."
When it is passed, Council
will know where it stands, the
businessmen will know where
they stand, the citizens will
know where they stand, and the
developers will know where they
stand.
Everyone will • know where
they stand; therefore not as
much time of Council will be
taken up by trying to . decide
what plan covers what. .

Consider the Alternative:
COMMENT —
CARROLL HAS TOO MUCH TO SAY!
FACT — An active member of 'Council must be an informed member. A prime duty is to have.
opinions and express them in open Council. Those who sit back and say little or
nothing are not fulfilling the responsibilities of elected office.
COMMENT -
CARROLL IS TOO BUSY!
FACT — Paul Carroll is more than community -minded— he is an active'participant in. com-
munity affairs. The 1972 record clearly demonstrates that his community in-
volvement has been "Council" oriented, At this time, he has no other .executive
commitments and can concentrate all of his efforts in the Town's direction.
COMMENT
CARROLL IS.,TOO IN'V'OLVED IN PARTISAN POLITICS!
FACT -et It is a fact that Paul Carroll has made an open declaration of his political support. ,
It is also a fact` that he has never mixed his partisan efforts with Municipal Govern-
ment. Goderich has had four recent Mayors who were outspoken supporters of
political parties. '

space to fall candidates to ex-
press their views and platform.
This opportunity 1 appreciate.
I am sure that the vobvious
question in most voters' minds is
"Why are you running for public
office?'r
Since moving to Goderich, I
have followed with considerable
interest the activities of the, town.
council. There are just under
.5,000 citizens who are eligible to
serve, yet a disappointingly
small number have let their
name stand for public office. To
me, this is a challenge which I
cannot ignore.
1 have no aye to grind or
issues to flog, but 1 ;do believe
that the administration of this
town MUST NOT get bogged
down in personalities, 'The
people of Goderich deserve to be
more currently informed of the
meetings of their council,
Therefore it is my contention
that town council should meet
Monday evenings in order that
the local press can publish the
council news in the same week
in which it occurs.
I assure ail citizens of

for the town of Goderich are
storm -sewers and road repair.
I also feel that the Odd Dump
site could over ,the next few
years be developed into an all
year round park. In winter,
there would be toboggan runs
and possiblya small ski run. In
summer there cbuld he pic-
nicking, swimming, and possiblvi
camping.
Flowers and flowering trees
could be planted along the two
harbour hills and the hill
overlooking theMaitland River
(the north entrance to
Goderich.) This . could be in
bloom from spring, to fall and
become a tourist attraction for
we do claim to be "The Prettiest
Town in Canada."
We must always be mindful
not to burden the people of
Goderich and especially our
citizens, who are on a fixed in-
come, with high taxes.
These are but a few ideas,
that 1 would like to present to
the 1973-74 Council.
1 would like to thank the
Publisher and Editor of the
"Signal -Star" for this oppor-
tunity to express a few views in
our paper during this campaign.
,In closing, I wish to extend, to
the other candidates my hest
wishes and the hest of luck, for
two of us, must he defeated. All
I can add if. elected, is that I
will do my best.
