HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1972-11-02, Page 25e Once again the musical ex- travaganza ''What's, Ver Fancy", produced by I,the Goderich Little Theatre, will be on the Stage.' This time *spon- sored by the Little Theatre and the Minton branch of Lions In- ternational. The production will Fbe-Staged-=inr•-Ihe*aru litoriunrof Clinton and District Secondary School Friday and Saturday,` November 10 and 11. Under the direction of former professional Mrs. Marjorie. Hays Dunlop themusical will feature cast members from all, over Huron • County including vaudevillian Jack MacLaren, a former member of the"Dum- bells". The play, similar to the. one produced by the G.L.T. last Spring, will take audiences back to some of the greatest Broad- way musicals and to the very timely nostalgia. of World War One. This year's production will feature scenes from Oliver as played by Jean Knight, Madeleine Edward, Lee McCallum and Elizabeth McMillan. Seamus Doherty of Clinton, Mrs. Dunlop, Don Symons (Clinton mayor), Keith Stokes, of Blyth and Bill Cochrane will "combine for the "Wouldn't it be Loverly" scene from "My Fair Lady". Other numbers from that- play will include "Get Me to the Church on Time" and "I Could have Danced all Night." Four numbers froin Gilbert and Sullivan's "H.M.S. Pinafore" will be staged as well. "We Sail the Ocean Blue", "I'm Called Little Buttercup"; with Shirley McMillan,, "Now Give Three Cheers", with Art Hen - wood and Bill Cochrane and "When _I Was ,a. - LAC " Seamus Doherty will perform "Try to Rernember and Bill Cochrane will team up with Roy Dunlop for "Plant a Radish" in productions from "The Fan- tasticks. Jack Maclaren, with assistance from the company, will introduce and perform some of the lesser known songs of the First World War,. explaining their history and back ground, in a special portion of the program dedicated to work he revives from the days of the Dumbells. i Betty Rogers, Shirley NcMillan and Jean Knight will ,team up . for "Three Little Maids",' a scene from The Mikado. From the same play Keith Stokes will sing "Willow Tit Willow" and then combine with his wife for "There is Beauty in the Bellow of the Blast". In other numbers Dan Wor- thy will sing "If I Loved You" from Carousel in combination with Lee McCallum. Brian Markson will perform "On a Clear Day" from Finians Rain- bow and the chorus will join for "There.'s Nothing Like A Dame" from South Pacific- and "There's N.o, Business Like Show Business from Annie Get Your Gun.' The musical will wind' up with a , Scottish set featuring numbers from Brigadoon ac-, companied by piper Glen McGregor of Kincardine. The Highland dancers of • Mary. Lynne Telford willalso take, part. Beecher Menzies of Clinton will perform "A Wee Deock and Doris" and "The Road to the Isles." Seamus Doherty and director Marjorie Dunlop will 'combine for "Come to me Bend to Me" and Mr, Doherty will ' also sing "I'll Go e Home With Bonnie Jean." • Asa finale the company will join in "Brigadoon" and "Down on MacConnachy Square". Tickets for the show are now available at The Coach House on Hamilton Street in Godenich, Reg Bell Optometrist on the Square in Goderich, from Beecher Menzies at 47 Albert Street in Clinton, Mrs. D.I. Stewart in Seaforth and Mrs. Peter Raymond in F,xeter. The Lions Club of Clinton and the Goderich Little Theatre will share the proceeds. 4 0 As part of the "What's Yer Fancy" ,production Jack McLaren, seen herein World War One costume, will take his audience back to the songs of the trenches. Mr. ,McLaren will lead the Goderich Little Theatre company in some of the lesser known songs of that first great war and explain the history and background of each number.
