Were. to be played on. Tuesday,
with the seniors going back to
Exeter and the juniors playing
in Wingham.
The finals both junior and
senior, to be held ,this Saturday

Against Exeter, Dave Mclvor
scored two touch -downs for the
Vikings, one on a three yard off -
tackle play in the first quarter,
and one in the fourth quarter on
a two yard off tackle play,
• following a pass interception by
John Moore who returned the
ball to the Exeter five yard line.
Casey Wildgen converted both
McIvor touchdowns.
The other Viking score came
on a 35 yard pass and run play
Pt from quarter -back Brian
MacKenzie to Casey Wildgen.
Coach Ray Donnelly
described the game as the har-
dest hitting game of the season,
and paid particular _r_am-
N
pliments to the Vikicg defence
which caused five South Huron
fumbles, and recovered all of
them.
The offense combined an ef-
fective passing attack with a
good ground game, that should
have provided plenty of trouble.
for the Panthers in the semi-
final on Tuesday.
The GDCI Viking juniors won
6-0 over Exeter when " Pat
Canton recovered Al Worgan's
punt on the Exeter eight yard
line, and Doug" Marshall scored
on an eight" yard dive play, for
the games only points.
The juniors finished in a
second place tie, but were allot./
ted third play on the basis of a
draw. Wingham finished first,
and thus became Goderich's op-
ponent in the semi-final. Second
place Stratford played fourth

final.
Coach Phil Bugler, like coach
Donnelly, yvas pleased by his
defensive squad. In the last
minute of play Exeter had five
plays inside the Goderich 10
yard line, but the Viking defence
held to save the game. The pun-
ting of Al Worgan and the play
of Pat. Conlon who made two
receptions, one key interception
and one key recovery of a fum-
ble were other 'highlights of the
Vikings' play:
Coach Buglers' squad went in
to the playoff against Wingham
as the underdog, having lost to
the unbeaten Mustangs 18-0 in
league play.

The junior and senior boys
volleyball teams participated in
the WOSSA tournament last
Thursday in Mitchell.
The juniors, under coach Jack
McLean,' had an even split of
ten games, winning five and
losing five. This was good
enough to give the GDCI team a
total of five points, and put
them in. •a tie with Chntorrfor
third place, behind Listowel and
Mitchell. However, because of a
double loss to Clinton in the
tournament, Goderich was
placed fourth.
The GDCI team had double
victories over Stratford North-
western and Seaforth, and a win
and ' a loss against Mitchell.
They lost both games to the
strong, tournament winning
team from Listowel.
The senior team, coached by
Bi1kWotsell, IVinto stiff com-
petitiori, especially from the
taller Perth teams, and despite
playing well, finished sixth in

award -new car
When.. the .fina.l ,. votes were
counted, Paul Henderson of the
Toronto Maple Leafs was the
winner of the new car to be
awarded to the most valuable
player in the recent ' Team
Canada/USSR hockey series.
But because he worn by the
narrowest of margins over Phil
Esposito of the Boston Bruins,
t.,e sponsors of the Labatt's
"Best on Ice" award decided to
reward both players by giving
them each a 1973 Ford Mustang
Grande.
W.F.: Read, President of
Labatt Breweries of Canada,
said: "The response was fan-
taatic. .Thousands and
ththusands of ballots came in
from every part of Canada but
at the end, only one per cent
separated Henderson and
Esposito.”
"It seems to us that it would
be fitting to acknowledge the
performance of both players
duringthe series by ensuring
that they both received a new
automobile," he said:
Henderson's feat of scoring
three winning goals in the last
three games in Russia resulted
in. a series victory for Canada

Safety Tip
°There is far less chance of ac-
cidental injury when riding by
bus, than when in a private car.
But in New York City there is a
new element of danger in bus
travel ---, buses are often held up
and the passengers robbed. The
Ontario Safety Le'ague reports
that as a protective measure
some buses are now equipped
with a device that, when ac-
tivated, causes all exterior lights
to flash on and off.
