Ross Whicher, incumbent
Member of Parliament l'or the
riding of Bruce, slipped by
challenger John Loney by a
narrow margin of 1382 votes to
retain the riding for the'Liberals
on Monday night. Locally, Mr.
• Loney was the popular can-
didate, taking Kincardine, Kin-
cardine township, Huron town-
ship and the village of Tiverton.
Loney was defeated in 'Ripley
and his home municipality 'of

The support for Loney in Kin -
w cardine, 926 votes to Whicher's
781, was a reversal of the results
of the 1968 election when Mr.
Whicher edged Loney by a 649-
627 margin. Kincardine town-
ships 191 majority for Loney•
was up from 114 in the last elec-
•
tion. Tiverton also increased
Loney's lead with 174-113 edge
compared to 1968's 109-25.

Whicher. In 19.68 Loney won the
two polls 116.112 but this time
it was Whicher 152-131. Last
election Bruce township just
couldn't make up its mind. and
cast 267 ballots for both men.
This time they decided they
wanted Whicher by ,a 415-368
margin.
The big surprise of the elec-
tion was the performance of
Tom Thompson, New
Democratic Party candidate.
