Dymond who will take,. up his duties in .Goderich October 16. Mr. Dymond is coming to Goderjch from Kingston where he°is presently employed in the same capacity. " A location from which the new recreation head will work was formost iii the minds of board members. Three possible alternatives were suggested. The promotion office on The Square„ N where there is an unused, fur- nished office, and a secretary, the Goderich Memorial Arena' for the setting up of an office in the former Goderich Business College, should the town decide to retain those facilities. Board members agreed that the best site for the Recreation Director's office, at least on a temporary basis, would be in the `Promotion facilities .at—The Square. This plan would represent 'the least amount of outlay to set the new employee up, as far as4 furnishings were - concerned since' the office was"' already. supplied,' andthe Power Squadron • programming THURSDAY, OCTOBER -5 172 location was central. The ., first, "Preparation for Parenthood: and the second, "Family Living" seminars. n, Dr. Mills stated that the '"Preparation for Parenthood" classes scheduled for the night school timetable will replace the previous so-called prenatal classes which. were conducted throughout the county. "Preparation for Parenthood" classes will be,.,.,s:ondutted in each of the county's secondary schools where night courses are available and will be taught by the public health nurse for that area with• the assistance of various resource personnel. The presentation ' of this series of classes in seminar -type discussion groups, in conjunc- tion with ' the, Board of Education night school courses, allows for better timing of the course for the expectant mother and father, in a centralized location and integrated with the other community night education courses. The second series of presen- tations, "Family Living" seminars, will also he taught by the area public health nurse (in all secondary schools) and will be, presented on a separate evening to 'that of the "Preparation for Parenthood" series to allow attendance at, - both, if desired. This series will make, use of resource personnel from varied fields as well as the nurse in- structor, and the series will offer instruction to all age groups in such important areas as safety. in the home, accident. preven- tion, first-aid care' for acute emergencies, practical home nursing and generally the essen- tials of healthful, happy living. The intent of the Health UnitIn providing these two courses is to help people to a better under- standing of child development (in the "Preparation for Paren- , thood" classes) and a source of p,actical information and open discussion in the "Family Living" classes.
