A boat sailed tinder ;the command .of Brian Cramer- of
Grand Bend' was' Resented with the Dominion Road'
Machinery Company Trophy Saturday afternoon following
the Dominion Roads Regatta sailing competition betiveox
Grand Bend, -Goderich and Bayfield held out of Snug
Harbour:.
Second place went to F. Frederiksen, the commodore of,
the Grand Bend' Yacht Club, sailing Trold, and, third to
Bill Smith of London who sailed the Nenuk. In all ,five
boats from Bay eWiix from oderieli`and` 1 B
Beard took part in the 12: mile race.
Competition actually first got underway the night before
as the sailors from Grand Bend and Bayfield raced on the
route to Goderich.. The local sailing club provided the
finish timer for the race and then served coffee and donuts
to�ttie 'sailors as they-arridedd—O"rr-the": eturirtri fro
Goderich Sunday a morning the Bayfield and Grand Bend
boats raced again.
The DRMCO Regatta was held in near perfect
conditions with a stiff breeze 'blowing. The race was started
at 1:00 p.m. after George Robertson welcomed the visiting
boaters. Paul Carroll and Harold Jeffery of the local club, .
served as officials and Claudine Baxter o2 ttioaericn was
time keeper. a
All 25 of the boats starting finished the race a d only 36
minutes separated the first and last boats. It took just less
than 10 minutes to bring in the top ten. Jack Elder
commanding Nishka placed twelfth and represented the
first Goderich boat across 'the line. The first three boats
finished in times of,138 minutes, 141.5 minutes and 143.6
minutes.
° Saturday' evening the Goderich Sailing club entertained
the visiting boaters to a dinner served .on the dock and
Bruce Sully' of Dominion Roads .presented the DRMCO
trophy to the winner.
