The egg lady
Weaves tartan b
Daphne Malins of RR 2,
Goderich is known as the "Egg
Lady" to many children in'the
area. She delivers eggs three
days. a week to Goderich
residents and is a familiar face
about town.
Last week the spirited woman
had a different image. She could
be seen at the Art Mart selling
some of her farrious ,woven
tartans. She weaves them
herself on a huge metal loom.
The talkative- little lady had a-
booth set up this year at the Art
Mart ,,with Shirley Beatty, a
Goderleh `resident who has just
been weaving since April of this
year.
' Daphne herself has been
weaving all tier life, and tartar's
are her specialty. Shirley
started out with a table loom
and recently bought a floor
loom to weave on.`
Daphne's hand woven tartans
=are made out of cotton or wool
to be made up for shirts or suits.
-0 She says it's- the greatest
relaxation for her when
weaves. '
Daphne enjoys weaving
because .you can, also make a
design on a piece of work that.
you'll 4 never find copied
anywhere else. Sometimes it will
take her as long as a day.before
.she can find the right blend of
colours for a' tartan.•
A woman who also does
leather . work, the remarkable
"Egg .Lady" may be known as
'the "Tartan Lady" naw- that
