Schoolmates, not spouses
Dear Ann Landers: What do you
thihk my chances are fora happy
marriage? Here are the facts:
1, Divorced six years.
Financially independent (no
alimony but a goon settlement).
2. Age 35,
3. Three children—oldest 15,
youngest 7.0
4, I'v'e had two nervous
breakdowns, the last one in 1967.
His record:
1. Different religion.
He's 24—born rand raised in
another country.
3. My children like him but
don't realize this is a romantic
relationship. They think I'm
tutoring him in English.
4. He wants to finish his
education, which means three
more years of college.
I lack two years toward my
degree and think it would be fun if
we went to school together.
What's your .advice, Ann—
Betwixt and Between in
Louisiana. „ • •
Dear Twix: My advice is—go to
school with him but don't marry
him.
Dear Ann Landers: I am a
s-ecretary-who`-needs' alT 6ftside
opinion. Lately this office has
been getting the crummiest
pornography imaginable. Such
garbage! The first time I opened
the stuff I was very embarrassed,
hut I kept my composure and
brought4t to my boss with the rest
of the mail. He told me :he didn't
- want to see things like that and
instructed me to send all
pornography back to the Post
Office in care of the Postmaster.
Now I hear that some of the
bosses in this buildi{zg have told
their secretaries they want to. see
ALL the. mail and if they hold
anything out, they will be fired., Is
this fair? Why should the
secretaries have to bring in such
filthy stuff? What is your opinion,
Ann?—Syracuse Secretary.
Dear Syracuse: My opinion ,is
that the secretaries in Syracuse
should do their job the way the
boss wants'it ddone. If he warits fo'
see ALL the mail, you' ,should
bring it to him. No secretary. has
the right to act as a censor.
• Dear Ann' Landers: This letter
.might sound like -New Haven, but”
it's a°real one and I am no kid. I'm
a middle-aged widow with more
than average good looks and I'm
no dummy. I have a good position
and am aple to support myself. I
tell you this so you will know I'm
not looking for a meal ticket.
The problem is the man I've
been dating for over a year. We
hive become very close friends
and have spent a great deal of tim-e
together. Several. months ago I
becarhe aware that he was never,
available on Friday `"evening. At
first I paid no attention but after
• awhile I became suspicious.
Finally he told. me that Friday
evenings are reserved for his
secretary. He said they have a lot
to discuss,, work to finish, and it's •
been altr ,dation fora long time.
He asked me to be pafient because.
.we will be married when he
retires . (next, year) and then he
will be freeof.her.. _ •

Should I go along with this or
should.I tell hire to take. his
choice?—Alabama Quandry.
Dear A.Q.: If you really want
this marr, relax. Tell him you have
no objections to those Friday
dinners with his' secretary
because you would like to be free
to accept inyitations with some of
your ` old friends". Then do it. 'I•f
he really wants to marry you he'll
arrange to get his; work done
during office hours and quit
horsing around.
