held at the home of Mrs. Les
Johnston with the Vice -President
Mrs. Doug Young in the chair.
Mrs. Beth Rutledge was in.,charge
of the meeting. Theme of the
meeting was "Stewardship and
Vocation".
S.cr'ipture was read by Mrs. D:
Young. Reading by Mrs. Rutledge
taken from the book' "Fingering'
Devotions".
A reading , also from the
Observer by Rev. Donald Watts
about Hospitals, Doctors and
Nurses. These readings were
found quite ,interesting and
especially the one. from the
Observer as a lot of the ladies
'knew Mr. Watts.

Presbytery for the U.C.W.

The ham and salad supper „is to

conferred tits final degrees at
Waterloo Lutheran University's
annual spring convocation att the
Kitchener Memorial Auditorium

It was Mr. Macdonald's final

house.
The different musical:groups
payed such a variety oft+•music,
that even' the hardest person to
please in, the audience must have
tapped his foot`in time somewhere
throughout the night! The students
from Sir Adam Beck, led by a
former Goderich resident Bill
Bettger,' are a talented group.
At the afternoon assembly;
Thursday-.-May--1-1; . they-- were -
greeted with enthusiasm and the
Senior students particularly. -
enjoyed the themes from' "Pink -
Panther'' and "Mission
Impossible'''. The Junior students
listened to their own Viking
Concert Band and Top Brass
Stage Band in the auditorium.

Goderich students met their
billets and we went home. Soon we
were back at school for Music
Night. Mr. Charles Kalbfl'eisch,
our bandmaster, received a
much -deserved standing ovation
for the long hours he has put in.
over the past five years, making
the bands what they are today.
Next year Goderich high school is
introducing an Instrumental
Music course as part of the
curriculum.
Wednesday, May 17, our track
team travelled to St. Marys for
the big Track Meet of .the year.
Until ,the last the Stratford
Central track team wags winning,
but St. ;Marys' students were the
ultimate winners of the meet, by
two ,points. • Goderich competed
well, placing third.
Some events were washed out
by rain and students travelled

The Debating Club hosted an
Invitational 'Debate ,on Friday,
May 19. Teams from .Exeter and •
Seaforth competed in this, the
first event of its kind at,G.D,C.I"
There were three teams ..
debating- �' sirnultafeously,
differebt areas of the school, each
before three judges, a Mrs.
Edwards, Mrs,, J. Sully, Mrs.
Donnelly, Mrs. Ilrevett, Rev.
Royal, Mr. Kincaid and three ..
Grade 13 students judged the
students and declared the best
team to be Rhea Hamilton and
John Jerry from G.D.C.I.
The team that placed second

Harrison and Pat Conlon, also
from Goderich.. A Seaforth team
placed third.. Pat Conlon 'was
declared the nlnst, 'outstanding
debater of the 'meet,'•with Rhea
Hamilton' as runner-up, and John
Jerry tied with a Seaforth girl, for
third place. This event .was a

becomes an annual affair,.
Today (Thursday) is the
Awards Assembly, when those
students who have actively taken
part 'and. achieved, in school
activities . .receive various •
trophies, jackets . and . other
awards. The recipients of the
various awards . are certainly'
deserving of .them, for the
competition is tough at G.D.C.I.'

presented before a Junior
Assembly recently. Directed by
Mr. John Smallwood, the • play
involved a, large cast, A new set
was applied putting the action in ,
the middle of the audience.. The
playtakes.part in the 1950's in a
small farming town. To ensure •a
good harvest the tradition is to
sacrifice a person'a-nd,stone them
to death. '

a five-year-old boy, draws the

Truck burns
on Highway 21
Monday sight
The Goderich detachMent'of the
Ontario Provincial Police bad a
busy time last week,with
investigation encompassing„ a
wide range of incidents.
On Monday evening they
investigated a truck on fire south
of Goderich,' Both the O, P. P. and
the Goderich Fire 'Department.
responded to a call to the scene'
where a van, owned by Edward
Doyle of.485 Charlotte Street: in
London, was in flames. The
O.P.P. report the truck
"apparently backfired and then
burst into flames. Damage was
estimated at approximately
$1200.
A search party of four Goderich
O,P.P,., officers found two
Michigan men safe but tired on
Sunday morning after they were
reported missing by their wives."

down the Bayfield river from ,..,
Varna Saturday aftern9on and-
their wives were to meet them.at
Bayfield about 8:00 p.m. that
evening. Whenthey didn't show up
by midnight. they were reported
missing.
Officers found the men about
one and one half miles north of
Elayfield, , tired, but otherwise

the Men could not paddle the canoe
and had to pull it most of the way
by hand.
