At the opening, of ' Hanover
raceway last Saturday. (May 6),
Excel Mac, owned and driven by
Roy Meriam of,.Goderieh won the
fourth race in a time of 2;:19 3: 5 on
a sloppy track. This was the first
start of the year for ,Excel Mac."
Excel Mac was parked fifth 'at
the quarter, parked third at the
half, was, leading at the 3/4 pole and
held on to beat Direct Carruthers
by a head. Direct Carruthers was
drien.by Dave.Wal•1'.. b...,
, Excel Mac paid $5.00, $3.50,
$2.60 and was the betting favorite.
Direct • ,Carruthers returned
$3.20, $2.40 and Great Pretender,
driven by 'Charles Lawson, paid

Racing continues in Hanover up to

There is minor baseball
registration for bantam, midget
and pee-wees or tykes who have
not yetsigned at the arena tonight
at 7:00 p.m.
There are approximately 60
boys registered for tyke and 20
for pee -wee. The association still
needs coaches for some teams

field meet is this Wednesday (May
17), in St, Marys.
The Youth Bowling Council held

the dinner. Guest speaker at the
banquet was Ernie Crawford.

for another summer of Sunday
evening band Concerts in-
Goderich Harbour' Park. The'
concerts will commence July 2
and will continue each Sunday
• through to and including
September 3.
To date commitments have
been received from the' Paris
Citizens Barid; Norwich Musical
Society Band; Stratford., Royal
Canadian Legion Band; Clinton
Legion Pipe' Band; Zurich
Centennial Band; as well as 'the
Highland Dancing Schools of Mary
Lynn Twelford and Brenda
Harrison.

additional visiting bands will be
included in the 'schedule: • '
The Goderich. Laketown Band
will play the concerts on the July
2,, August 6 and September 3
holiday weekends.
The Goderich Lions have very
kindly, and generously offered to
make bus transportation
available, to and from the
concerts, at no charge, to .the
• town's elderly:. Details as to
playing _dates of the various
bands, highland dancing, and bus
transportation partidulars; will
be advertised ata later date.
