This week we have been learning
about the differentanimals on the
, farrn, and why the farmer keeps
there. We painted pictures about
the faun. We particularly enjoyed
our record Bozo or the Farm. and
, the coloured " • picttvrl•es which
accompanied it.

• While many of us do not know
very much about farms, others of
us have grandmas and grandpas
or other friends who -live on farms
and can tell us quite a lot about the
animals and vegetables grown
there.
We have enjoyed looking. at
pictures. reading • stories, , and,.
singing songs about the farm. We
have *.also painted •our own
✓ versions of farm animals and
constructed farmers at work.

We are making a quipuF% to
represent the Inca 'number
system, used many years ago. We
are going to get a long piece of
rope and tie many • different
colours on to it. We wit then tie
knots into the'yarn to represent
numbers.

VILLAGE
We are making mountains with
screens" and sheets with' plaster
pans to cover the Mountains. The
aquaducts, bridges, irrigation
system and suspension bridge
will be made -of bamboo, binder
twine and wood, We are, doing a
simple Inca village .to try and
'show "the' Way of life in a typical
village. •

At 8:00 this morning the Viking
Band left G,D.C.I. on its annual
M two-day Spring Tour, They should
arrive inWoodstock around 11:00
where they will .play before the
students of Woodstock Collegiate
Institute'. An afternoon concert is
Scheduled for Waterford District
High School. The Band will spend
the night in this town, hilletted"
• with the hand members of
Waterford High School, therileave
next morning for St, John's
College in Brantford, the last
concert of the trip.
Each year the band have a new
program, "Theme from'6ummer
• of'42"the Beatle Medley "Let it
Be", :Trumpet Song", Songs by
"Chicago, and "Selections by
Jimmy Webb make up'the agenda
for the Concert Band.

they're becoming artists as they

To whom does this elegant gown
belong?
I thought t'was a Queen's,
But no—1 was wrong. P,
It changes its colour o.nce a year
To tell us that Winter's almosf
here, -
Now, I know that you too can see.
It's the -colourful gown of a Maple
Tree. •
This is a sarnple.poem, done by
the• Grade 6 class at Colborne
School as an example to he
enteredin a poem contest being
held within the school. There are
three categories to this contest.
The Kindergarten to • Grade 3
• students are entering sketches:
the Grade 4 to Grade 6 students
are entering 'poems; -,ani. the-„
Grrade 7 and 8.: students are
entering short essays.' The
overall theme is "Trees."
This contest helps' to create
interests a "fun night-' to he held
in the near, future with • any
• proceeds going to buy voting
seedlings, The '`fun night" will
consist of contests made up by the
students, in rvhieh -parents arid
students, alike will participate.
• We feel this to be a good project in
helping tobeautify our school.,
LADIES DAYS

One of the groups last week
made butter and ice cream. This
group was studying•dairy cattle.
To make both the butter and ice
„create they used whipping cream.
The cream was put into a jar and
shaken until the butter formed a
hallo gait was added to give it
taste.
It was a white colour because
bufterrs colouring added, to it.
For the ice cream, we whipped
the cream in°a bowl and'froze it.
To give it some flavour we radded
some Maple syrup.. ,

The, gentle swity'ing of the
liferaft and the taste of salty
water brought John to his senses
Four survivors remained.in the
last coma before death was the
fourth, Len and Bill were still
• asleep.
• John's swollen ems shifted to
Rooky,who was the. -fourth
member His memory went hack
nineteen days ago when their ship
went .to the ocean floor.

would never forketthe'dazzling-
flash of light when 4he deadly
torpedo struck. home.
, •Just then •John thought of the life
vests. They had a tin of vitamins
in all life vests. Nobody .had
thought of their last hope, which
was on their own person. His .head
• swimming he managed to cut open
his vest with the sharp knife. The
only way to get inside the vest 'was
-to cutit open. The reason was for
waterproofing. Out of the hole he
produced five by five inch tin.
Inside was a shiny, black
substance that tasted moist. John
chewed,the precious contents and
crawlinfoLen and Bill gave MTV
a piece and told them to chew it.,
Len and Bill took out their own and
gave Rocky's to John. The tlitee''

greatly regretted doing this but
they knew it would make less
weight so the raft would sit

youth
plan rally
The. St. Peter's Youth • Group
was involved in a day trip to Mount
St. Joseph in London last Sunday.
A group of about 10 went on the
excursion.
The Yout'li Gr•ouli's., main
interest is the upcoming Youth
Rally which Goderich is•host of. It
will take place the',Sundriy Of May
7: Several other'Youth Groups are
attendifig the• rally' such as
Kingsbridge, Wingham, St.
Augustine and Luck'now, In
Goderich the singers for the rally
have.been practicing for three.
weeks now. Some guests at the-- 'Ha•-•
rally will be Darlene Kennedy and
Father Cassano who will he
conducting the Rally. •
This,S•unday the Group is having
a,general meeting at St. Mary's
School and'after that the,
Kingsbridge and St. Augustine
Youth Groups are coining down to

Night (Mar 11) Have you bought
your ticket?
The new environmental club,
Natura, l as kad its last meeting of,
the year. On May 13, the club
members are planning to clear up
the Goderich beaches. Signs will
be posted. before the 24 of May
holiday; in this way the students
hope the beaches will remain
safer and clean.
The members of the track
team, are now training for their
individual events, There was a-
relatively good turn -out for'Track
this year, and almost a hundred
students will trayel to the Track
Meet in St. ,Mary's, on May 17.
As the date for the formal
arrives, frantic last-minute
touches are being added to the
elaborate--'d'ecorations In the
gymnasium.
Nominees for school queen are
Sherry Moore, Anne Hopkinson,
Dianne' Crawford and Trudy
Kernighan. The queen will he
crowned Friday 'evening and Pm
sure the decision will be difficult!
