Renovations, both inside and out, are going to be made. Here I am,' safe and sound, in the Sunhy South. The trip wa'S4 great but every trip just HAS to be different -and it was. Our 401 really shouldn't be compared to these dual or super, highways but'l suddenly wonder if tourists to our' country runAi'nto the same situations as we have. Perhaps because the trip was longer, it seethed the stopping places were fewer, but we have nice -eating and fuelling up places every fifty to one hundred Miles— on the 401—for sure,, but* here They were few and far between and you had to travel a few miles off the main highway to find a place to eat. Our first adventure was out'of Detroit. The name of Hie town was Newport.and I don't knowawhen I have ever seen a dirtier place in my life, You just wouldn't believe it—and after a four or 5 mile run The Men's and Ladies sports we carried on, eating biscuits— 'committees are busy drumrliing no appetite' -just glad to be back up ideas to•.make this the most • on the nice clean highway. successful year yet.. The Men's Everything seemed so flat and O cards- are,,nowma ailable- uninteresting-,' • anyway from. Detroit to Findlay; Ohio. I think last year I slept during this part of the trip and so it rather surprised Toe to see this sort of thing. We , passed ..one bad accident -where a pickup pulling a cabin trailer—or similar.—had got out of control and it was sitting in, the entre of the✓median wherebe had 'teen forced to go to miss the cabin • trailer mess. • Later we were following a similar outfit down.one of the long hills and it started swaying all over the road:. It is too bad, but it did make me wonder about our own small town impressions on tourists. Around Dayton Ohio it poured cats and dogs --(that's always a good stimile) We 'got lost . somewhere in the, city and had to retrace five'm-iles in the downpour—(amongst all those' .cats and dogs!) Our first day was practically a total loss, we only covered about 350 miles. ,ll'he second day was better and I helped by driving the last hundred for the day. 'I was all wound-up—felt like driving right thro' as Venice seemed so close, but sensibly we pulled in at Tifton, GA., where we had stayed one , other time—and the innkeeper remembered us and recalled we had had another couple with •Lis at. that time. • Now, that was real nice to have -slier--a-greeting and -have someone' -1. - make sure you would be - comfortable. The motel where we had stayed the previous- nate, they 'wouldn't be bothered corning out in the rain. We found the room wsts boiling hot and just couldn't cool it down, also they charged big inn prices ,for 'second rate accomodations=and it was just dissapbinting. We had travelled just over 700 miles on our second, day so I thought the next few hundred ' miles would be a cinch. It still took us 'nearly seven hours to reach our destination, sine MR.°R.
