Members of Goderich Town
Council have uncurled with a
resolution from-- the 'Tolvn of
Ingersoll in which it was agreed to
petition the Ontario government
"to take whatever action deemed
necessary to provide grants equal
to the amount paid through the
Residential Tax Reduction Policy
in 1971 to relieve the homeowner
of some of the burden of Municipal
and Educational taxes in 1972."
The Ingersoll resolution draws
.attention to the fact ;,that the
'discontinuation of the policy ,wall
create a burden on the residential
taxpayers, especially those on
fixed incomes.
It notes that the ,provincial
scheme made it possible, for
municipalities to continue a
' progressive irnprovement
program without undue burden to
the ratepayers. It also states that
the. decision to discontinue 'the
Tax Reduction Policy was made at
an inopportune time when nearly,
all municipalities in the province
have completed their budgets for
1972 with' the exception of the
education costs". •
The brief added that despite the
provinciaOncentive employment
program, unemployment is stills a
major issue and many people will
`find it 'a'rcal effort to pay -their
