The communities of Goderich,
Clintdn and Sea -forth and their
surrounding areas are being
canvassed now by members of the
nominating committee of the
Association for the Mentally
Retarded to ,find a new slate of
officers for,the local -Association
which serves that district.
According to various persons
presently involved with the
Association, a ,complete
revitalization of the organization
is necessary before there can be
progress. It ,became evident
during a recent effort to join
forces with the South Huron
Association- for the Mentally
Retarded to build „ji regional
workshop ,for retarded adults
• near Clinton, that there just was
not sufficient interest Qr
membership in the local
Association to proceed with. fund

Immediate need, according 'to
sources, is an executive from the
community, concerned about the
problems faced by. the mentally
retardedand schooled in the ways
of organizing and motivating.a
group such as the local
Association.

Under anew policy adopted by
the Goderich Recreation Board
and Arena Committee which
provides for the local ,arena
manager to be on hand once each
month at Recreation Board
meetings, Bill Lumby attended
the regular meeting held.
Wednesday night at town hall.
The board discussed a letter
from . the , Vi -Pond sprinkler
system company regarding an
earlier. request by, the town' -for
information about the testing and
repair of the unit. The main
problem had been the testing of
the system periodically without
tripping the siren at the fire .hall
which is at present connected to
the unit."
The sprinkler system company
suggested a three-way switch 'be
installed so that the connecting
line 'to the fire hall. could he
temporarily disconnected during
the weekly testing. The arena
manager informed hoard
members it would be up to the
Telephone Company to do this
work since they provide` and
service the special line between
the arena and fire hall.
Recreation board agreed to
authorize Mr. Lumby" to obtain
price estimates and in connection
with Mayor Harry Worsell was
also given power to act on the
recommendations. .
In other arena business the
manager informed the board that
.Seaforth had agreed to buy the
Goderioh Ice Shaver, which had

Interim tax levies
due next Wednesday
The interim tax billing is
proving to be' coneern for many
Goderich taxpayers, according to
Admtnistrato - Harold Walls, but
persons who fake the time to visit
town hall to have their questions
answered are usually satisfied
.when they leave that everything is
in order. '
The interim tax levy is not
additional taxi tion or is it penalty
taxes, says Walls.
Taxes are being collected this
year in amid -Ma ch to put money
into council's hands early to cut
down on the amount, of interest
paid for 'bank loans to operate
municipal business.
.Taxes paid now will be deducted.
frprn the final tax billing, Walls
said. . .
"'Taxpayers are simply paying'
part of their taxes jn•,advance.

'Collection dates will be in June
acid in October.
Walls noted there had been
solbe concern among ratepayers
that the additional billing would be
costly. However 'the
administrator is satisfied that
savings on interest payments will,
more, than compensate for -the
additional billing charges.,
He estimated that it woul'd cost
about $1,000 for the interim,
billing and that as much as $5,000
on bank interest charges could be
saved. ,
