Considering their cultural
requirements. the wide range of
colors and the striking, beauty •
they provide, it is a wonder that
m
acbienes' are soliwttle known.
,Few are seen on WindoI sills or,
outside in hanging baskets on
shady porches and•patios, a useto

adapted.
Achimenes belohg to the
group as African violets,
gesneria, gloxinias and episcias.
' They react :T. much the same way

attractive foliage .with `striking .
flowers. ' •
They -ire adaptable for growing
in greenshouses, in homes on.
shelves or tables near the
windows. Since the foliage is

if protected from the sun. .
Most of, the species and
cultivars have a pendulous habit
that is well suited for hanging -
baskets. A few kinds haye erect
