Died.
Ayton, Ont,; July 13.—Mr. Locking,
of Clifford, butcher, while driving home
from Ayton Friday, fell out of his wag
gen down an embankment and re•
ceiyed such injuries that he died in
less than an hour. Mr. Locking was
about 70 years of age, and has been a
resident of Clifford many years.

ing cherries in his garden this after-
noon lMIr. F. Irwin fell,owing to break-
ing of a limb, and striking on head
broke his nock and died almost instant-
ly. It[r. Irwin has occupied position of
store keeper at the G. T. R, since 1871,
and well known to railway employes.
He was a prominent Orangeman and
chairman of the committee which ar
ranged the late celebration here.

Killed By a Parasol Rib.
Hamilton July 17.—Lorrette Valen
tine the three year-old daughter of
Mr. Chas Valentine, died on. Saturday
under circumstances of a peculiar and.
sad nature. On Thursday last the child
while playing with a parasol, tripped
and tell, and one of the ribs entered
her nose, penetratingseveral inches
and drawing. blood. Medical aid was
immediately Summoned, and it was
found the rib of the parasol • bad gone
into the braid. Physicians could do
nothing to save her, and she lingered
in a semi conscious state, until Satur-
day, when death ended her sufferings.

Port Elgin, July 14.—A sad accident
occurred ycsterdoyeveuulg at 7 o'clock
on the stock farm of Mr. John George,
2nd con. of Saugeen,where a barn rais-
ing was in progress. One of the plates
a stick of timber 70 feet long, was al
most to the top when the tackle gave
way, the stick striking Mr:, John Sch-
was, jr., on the head, crushing;, out his
brains. Medical aid was at once sent
for, but he neyer regained conscious-
ness, and died in about two hours, He
was 85 years of aa'o, and ]eaves a wife
and two little girls to mourn his un-
timely end. ' Great sympathy is ex-
pressed for the berca' ed family.

Opening of the New R. C,
Church St. Mary's,
St. Mary's Ont., July 17. -Yesterday
was the anniversary of the Feast of
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. and ' this op-
portune occasion was chosen for the
opening of the new Roman Catholic
church in St. Mary's. His Lordship
Bishop O'Connor conducted the blessing
and dedicatory services and preached
in the morning. Dean Murphy, of
Irishtown, celebrated macs, aiid was as-
sisted by Rev. Father Wvlsh, of Toron-
to, as deacon; Rev. Father Ferguson, of
Assumption College, Sandwich as . sub -
deacon, and Rev. Father Kennedy,Sea-
forth, master of ceremonies. Rey. Dr.
Kilroy of Stratford, also ofiicated. In
the evening musical vespers were held
and Rev. Father Ferguson preached.
Rev. Father Connolly, of Lucan, was
also present, and took part. The -mus-
ical part of the services were excellent,
andthe collections were very liberal.
Killed by Lightning.
Perth, • Ont., July 17. -During a
heavy thunderstorm which came up,
about four o'clock to -day, Mr. Thomas
Griffith, a highly respected farmer who
lives in Drummond township, three
miles from here, while receiving hay
in his barn from the load alongside,was
struck by lightning and apparently
fell dead. The barn immediately took
fire and was consumed, together with
Mr. Griffith's body, which could not be
saved. The daughter of the unfortun
ate man was the only `person present
when her father fell and witnessed the
horrible cremation in helpless despair.

A Canadian Robbed.

sharper on train. No. 6 on the Chicago
& Grand Trunk asked an old gentle-
man going to Chicago from Si. Cathar-
ines for change. The old gentleman
pulled out a roll of $300, and four CEO
bills, and laid them on the seat while
looking for small hills. The sharper
put clown $28 in small bills,' picked up
the other roll and then ran through
the train, pursued by the old gentle.
