It is being ,shorten d necessity this week. here just isn't time to •engage in the luxury of spinning out .reams of words for ' this ,• column. • Our Christmas was just great and from what I've heard from others with whom I've been in u contact, Christmas was generally well enjoyed as it usually is when families get together. There's not much that can'be A said about a green Christmas, except that it makes it quite a simple matter to' travel for the holidays.,,And one more joy, of course, was the fact that it wasn't. necessary to pull -into and out ,,of those cumbersome boots • and overshoes whilst making the Christmas Day rounds, Of particular interest to me;- this ' year, was the number of people who 'crowded into the churches on Christmas .Eve to welcome 'the.. Saviour of the world. Our church'In Dashwood .had (.never been so well filled for many years andthe program was just superb., f• ,I understand from • people here in • Goderich that the churches with Christmas Eve services . were filled to 'capacity too - _ and• the number of teenagers who attended was most heartening. M * * * We're, now- preparing for the arrival.' of the N.ew Year. For some 'people, of course, this is • the biggest celebration of the entire year .coming up this weelAnd 'and I suppose. that, -greeting'a, -new year is• something -to get excited about. . • I' always think • of the new year as akin to getting a fresh start, It, is, -almost as though the probletai„ y' nd,,,t ie mistakes of the 0a ,F, @si `are ended•- gone forever. ttretching out before us is a brand new adventure andron New Year's Eve it is as though you are receiving an opportunity • • t•o"-se•t everything in order again for '-tile -coming- 365 -days. The new year will be, better, we tell ourselves. Much better. , That's the reason, I suppose, that new year resolutions are so popular, with people. Already the lists are appearing in our household •as inembers of the Keller -clan plan their dreams and goals for__the_coming_.year,_S.ome of us Aguess which ones) will get thinne others will get better marks in school; another will keep a beds om much neater; and on and on it goes. - And the nice part abput irlaking'y lir""r"esoTiairons""e lily°TS- that COI. several days, you can maintain, your old ways. It won't -.be until .Saturday that you will have to change,. to the .. riew •Y wt ro methods and right now, that seems like eons away and my oh my, how we enjoy those last -few hours of indulging in our wicked ways. * * If the weather is good, I will be heading with my family to the Mount Forest area where an aunt of mine resides, She is the former Florence Seguss, married for many long -years to Robert, Echlin. Both of them v+ -ere raised around the Nile -Dungannon district. That trip has been traditional with us now for sorne years. Uncle Robert's birthday is on New Year's Day, so it is a double celebration. My aunt and uncle get 'together with their family for Christmas but since their child3/en and grandchildren live in t`he Hamilton -Niagara . Falls • area, they are usually alone for New Year's Day. That's when the Kellers converge on them and enjoy an old-fashioned holiday on the Cann.' • I•' guess everybody has a favorite aunt and uncle,, two people who stick out .as very special folks who • just jive with you and your way of life'. Aunt Florence and Uncle Bob are that -special couple for me. When I was •a very young child living in Clinton, -any mother •used to put me on the train, give the -conductor his instructions and send me off to Hamilton where„ my aunt and uncre lived "a't 'that. time. • I always spent 'my Christmas, my Easter and .as much of rrry summer holidays; there as -I possibly c'1iuld. I was almost like one of the family. One of the special features, of course, was my three cousins. Being an only child, our home was rather quiet during the holidays but at • the. Echlin household, things •were, always swinging. 'Arid these cousins. still .hold a special place in my heart, L qty GODERICH SmxnL6raa. ixunsunY Aiburn and Distr1ct WI (posts Christmas luncheon BY MRS.' WES.
