loom of temporal, affairs, even
under, deihlish mOnarchs, and
rulers. 'For 700 years the records
had stood predicting the birth of
the Messiah to take place in
Bethlehem of Judea. Mic. 5:2:
But, how God had the couple
chosen for his parents, who
presently dwelt in' Galilee,

accordance with prophesy, is

Somewhere recently we read
a sentence which said some of us
"are sawing wood so f t that we
forget to take time t�\sharpen
the saw." There is • ch of

much time to .think of the real
meaning of the motions,. with
'everyone lueving so much to, do,
and every day a clay less in
which to do it.
This is a time of intense
activity: of the, making of things,
of the buying of things, of, the
* selling of things, of, the wrapping
of things„ of giving out and
gathering in.; of decorating and
adorning, of crowding much into
a limited length of life toward a
definite date and deadline.
Christmas; of course, has its
several sides: its spiritual side, its
commercial side, and its personal
side that pertailis to the being
together of family and friends. It
also has its compassionate s,ide,
the blessed' side that moves us to
reach out for others who might
otherwise be left lonely and
alone. And we shouldn't let the
rush of it rob us of- its 'real
significance. We shouldn't be
"...sawing so fast that we forget
to sharpen the saw," or living so
fast that.we mistake the motions
and mechanics for the real
east

seller? You can -believe it. The
new hymn book"pulished by the
Anglican and United Churches a
few months ago has sold rout - all
185,000 copies. Now officials
are wondering how they can
appease eager church members
until March .when the" second
printing will come off press.
' Already, there are orders on
hand for 20,000 copies.
The first edition waSieceived
from tli-e printer in October and
• distribution to congregations of
both den6miriations began soon
afterwards. Price of the .new
hymn book is $3,75 in quantity
lots, $4.75 for less than 12
copies.
Six years ago the two
churches established a
committee of 25 clergy and lay
• people who- searched out and
,.examined 10,000 hymns and
tunes froffi all over the world.
Finally, 507 hymns were
selected, of which 150 are new.
Canadian authors , wrote 57'
hymns and Canadian musicians
composed 45 of the tunes. '
"It's the finest hymn, book
ever produced, withthefinest
type, paper and design," said
Rev. R. "H. Nr Davidson,
vice-chairman of the joint
committee. Allan R. Fleming df

University Press, Wurzburg,

He was an interior decorator.
He was also a member
