' In his ' 'slecial • Christmas •
message,. Commissioner C. D.
•
Wiseman, leader of
Salvation rmy in ,Canada,
suggests thp.robably the vision kti of the Army most people have at
Christmas is of 'carolers singing
and playing in the streets, and
Christmas ' kettles into which tit
money is thrown to help the
poor! p

"We want people . to listen
again to the original Christmas
carol", the Commissioner states
.in his message. "More than ever
before, the world needs to hear
•and heed the angel chorus,
`Glorrio God in the highest,
and on earth ;peace ;',goodwill
toward men.' Until God is
recognized as `the Highest' there
can't be true peace in the world,
,We warship at the altars- of
hedonism, sex,, alcohol, material '
possessions. For multitudes
these things force God out to' :k?.‘
the margins of living. In fai.-t,
many barely give Him a thought—%
from one years end to another.,
a
"The tragedy is that when
God and• His rules that are
designed to produce the only
really satisfactory and joyful
life-style, are ignored, life
commences to go to'pieces. An
architect who ignores simple
facts about people, and just
because he wants to, builds his
ceilings so low that no one could
stand upright, would be
reckoned a fool. People who
ignore the way they are made
with their inbuilt need for
something more than the things
,one can feel, touch, smell- and
, handle, are equally foolish.

"God's peace, which gives life.
poise and meaning, is available -in
Jesus Christ. He is alive in the
world today, ready to love and
forgive and help people. This 'is
what Salvationists who are
'members of Christ's' Church,
stand for. It is the only story
they have,to tell!"

Commissioner, t Wiseman ••
challenges Canadian Salvationists
particularly to meet people
wherever they ,congregate, with
this message of forgiveness and
inner peace.. If people won't
