Educators meet in Mitchell
•
,,(`)ne hundred and fifty
associate. principals and teachers
from Perth, Huron, Grey, Bruce
and Oxtord counties attended a
conference at Uppei; Thames
Public Sch ool, Mitchell,
Noaenrber, h, and discussed their
role in the practice teaching
program.

conference was
sponsored by the Ontario
'1 .a.c tiers --Federation,
co-operation with the- Strativrd.

Althouse-•College of Education.
Associate k teachers and
principals are those who work in
conjunction with the teachers'
colleges , and faculties of
education throughout the
province in setting up the
student teaching program.
The . program included
student • presentations, panel
discussions, and g roup
discussions.
Guest speaker, was G. O.
Dickinson, principal,. Stratford
Teachers' College. Helen3ryans,
primary teacher at the 'Mitchell
Public School, was conference
chairman.
Thomas Kydd, , principal. of
-Spruced'ale 1Public School',"
Shakespeare, was chairman of
planning committee ..for the
conference.
Len Brouse, principal of
Upper Thames Public -_SA hoot,
welcomed the „ conference
participants.

Department answered a call on
Friday `, afternoon about five
miles. south. of .Guderich off
Highway 21 to a grass fire that,
pushed by strong winds; had'
swept into a hardwood bushand
was threatening the' area as well
as buildings closeby,.
The fire had spread from -an
adjoining field where farmers
were attempting to burn«off
corn stalk and with strong,wind
soon took a ho1c 'in several ureas
throughout the bush. Dt leaves

provided excellent fuel. when
combined with dry windfalls and

the fire was soon out of control

Making use of a nearby pond

water into the bush to
extinguish the blare. with the
help of shovels, and dirt. There
was no serious damage and no
injuries' were reported ' in
connection with the incident,
