RY BERYL HARPER
Kay Graf, president of the
Ladies' section of the,, Curling
Club, is thinking of the curling
season which is almost here,
despite the ,beautiful sunny
weather of-t?rls past -weekend:
She has a committee
organized to contact last year's
members to see if they are
planning to curl this season. If
any Of you -are 'certain that you
wish to be in either the
afternoon, or evening draws,
contact Kay 4t 9614 or Beryl
Harperat 7642. A few, of you
have mentioned new curlers who
are also interested and we are
eager to have them on our draw
lists too. Perhaps we can have a
full draw and use the 4 sheets of
ice this year. Send in the names
early.
. Vic Loughleen has contacted
various industries in town and is
planning to run an Industrial
league' for pay ;as -you play
curlers. The times and dates for
these games have not been
announced as yet,' but the fee is
$1.75 for an eight end game.
Pete Graf is hoping for a
mixed draw on Saturday nights,
followed by an informal social
evening, much like the two -ball
foursomes which proved so...
popular • at the Golf Club this
sesason .

Mediocre , band .era en
BY SUSAN FREEMAN '
The -era of mediocre bands at
G.D.C.I. has definitely come to
an end! This was in evidence
Friday right when the sounds of
"Mornington.:., Drive:"., :. a* -well
known group frdm --Toronto;
reverberated throughout the
auditorium.
This second dance of the year
at G.D.C.I. has been termed one
of the school's best. The
high-calibre band Was greeted by
an overwhelmingly large turnout
of the -student body. The present
enthusiasm tor ' school social
events should , continue as.
another band "Fear" will play at
the school November 10'. Social
Convenor Mike* •Tafeit, and the
Social Committee 'of Margo
Bettger, Al Drennan, Anne
Hopkinson and Stu Asher should
be congratulated on . their'
success!
Last, Thursday ° the Drama
Club hegati its casting.
Enthusiasm for this club at
bas been increasingly
strong these past few years and
over 60 students attended the
auditions for Trigon, which, has
become a an annual event at
G.D.C.L. The three plays should
be .presented sometime in
December,
Teachers Mr. ,Robinson and
Mr.' Smallwood have also
organized noon -hour theatres '-
and drama worksh9ps which
allow many .iion:actors to,
become involved in the' Drarna
Club. The students can . learn
how to construct stage sets,
design costumes • add apply,
make-up.
Mr. Charles Kalbfleisch and
his band members are hard at
work. The students' come
Tuesday and Thursday mornings
at 8:00 to practice as well as the
usual. Monday sand --Friday
noon -hour .sessions..- Wednesday
. noon.. has ,.been.r : era+ect ', r ,
sectional practice while on
Tuesday and- Thursday at
noon -hour the stage band gets'
together.. -.
Mr. Kalbfleishch says
presently' the ,Viking Band is the'
best it has'ever been this early in
the year. This is probably due to
the increased number of
practices " and also to t fact,
that 24 Viking band embers
attended the Ontari - Youth
Music Camp at Beav rton this
summer . where they were
instructed by top musicians.
November 1 is the first band
trip of the year. The band will
travel to, North Middlesex , and
Strathroy Highschools where
they will entertain with such
selections as "Let it Be" by the
' Beatles, "Bridge 'Over Troubled
Waters" by Simon and
Garfunkel and "For All. We
Know" a Carpenter song.
