,," Vertical integration,, its
philosophy and practice, is the
most serious threat to, the
continued existence of the '
family farm," says a ' major
policy .statement made by the
Christian -Farmers Federation.
• The statement recommends
three things; first, immediate
dction to .stop the growth of
vertical integration; second, put
the family farm on fair
competitive terms with the
in,tegrators; and third, long term
action to 6 break up • the
integrators' hold on some sectors
of the agricultural industry.
' The 2,000 word statement
prepared by the Policy Study
Committee of the Christian
Farmers Federation and
unanimously adopted by the
September meeting of the
Provincial Board states eleven
objections to vertical ,integrators
and their activities.

The Christian -Farmers

that fainily farmers. cannot

take away opportunities from

viable operations ag well as from:
young fat -riffles who wish to
begin family farms.
"A great Injustiee being

farmer," says the statemerit.
Family farmers are being forced
to leave farming as ,t,heir way of
life. YoUng men interested in
'farming end up as

on the industry.
The staternent points out that
family farming has a special
attraction to Christian farmers.
They see % themselves as the
keepers of a part of God's
creation. The Christian farmer
,wants to be able to continue his
'way of life on the farm and
make an, adequate living for
himself and his family.
The Provincial Board also
re -appointed the Pdlicy Study
Committee and Mandated it to
look into ways of achieving the
recommendations made in the
Policy Statement.
The indoor exh, ibits"of sewing, baking, floral arrangements and other examples of,home-arts caught
the fancy of the female visitors to the Dungannon Fair on Septernber 30. Fair officials report a
yvide range of entries in almost all classes. (Staftphoto)
