Despite betng four and five
holes down in both matches on
the first nine; she came back on
• the last -nine to win one match,
and keep up with the other
oppOnent until the last hole,
The final results were Doris
Paquette, club champion on the
18th ,hole, -and Maxine Martin
runner up. Verna Kane won the
Rdse.. Bowl handicap event, with
Doris Paquette second.
The results of the Ladies
Night draw were: winner of the
"':first flight, Maxine Martin
winner of the second flight,
Verna Kane, and winner of the
third flight, Marilyn Mackay.
Sheila Sully won the Mrs.
Bruce Trophy for the player
who lowered- her handicap the

Ladies Competition
The Main match,,of the day
was the tense Club
• Championship duel between IssY'

and it wasn't until the 44th hole
that Tssy .was 'declared the Club
Champion.
Ralph Kinswell won the
Senior _Wn's event; George
Bolton was thrilled to win the
Meh's Night prize, a pair of golf
shoes. • -
Dave _ Garnish won The
P,apern.ick trophy, a handicap
event which -ran throughout the
Summer. The runner-up was Karl
Campbell. Karl also was playing
in two events at once, and
finished second in both of them.
The other was the first flight
of the Men's Club
Chainrifortship•:. -The • winner -at-
the first flight was Ken Hall, and
in the second flight the *inner
was Stan- Paquette with waiter
Palmer.the renner-up.
The Scotch two-halr
foursome finished earlier in
September, but the pries were
presented after the dinner to the
wintierS', Bill Bradley, and Joe
Craig. The runners-up were Karl
Campbell and "Q"Egner.
The Kane award for the most
improved player this year went
to Doug Hesk.
The events of the day
concluded with dinner and a
, dance, both of which were well
attended.
Last Wednesday, September
25, ,Goderich and District
Collegiate Institute entered a
girl's and a boy's team in the
Perth -Huron 'tournament in
Stratford and made a creditable
showing.
The boys finished. in third
place, one stroke behind the
second place team, and four
strokes behind the winning

ifficult course with many water
hazards to test the players. The
winner of the boy's section was
Don Bedoui. with 75 for 18 '
holes, who is now eligible for the
-W.O.S.S.A. fipals.

Johnson, Mike Palmer, John
Warr, with Ron Sowerby and Pat
Conlon sparing.
The girls played nine holes
and Sue Powell won the low
gross competition with 54. The
rest of the team were Janice
Green, Brenda Brissette and
Karen Harris. .

The Goderich Collegiate Institute Senior Vikings clearly h4a44he
visiting Winghani marn, outclassed, in every way last Thursday -as
they handed Orem a 38-0 trouncing in a game played at_the
G.D.C.I, football field. To date, Goderich has.won two of its

The Mustangs lost out to the
Vikings in the League finals last
year.
Thursday's game won the
first of the regular schedule for
both tealiiS.
The Vikings ,dominated the
game ,after a rather slow start-.
offensively in the first half,, They
piled up a total of 17 first
,downs, and a total offense of
409 yards compared to three
first downs and a net yardage of
33 yards by the Mustangs
Fullback Gary Lounsbury
scored. two in the second half for
the Vikings. One came from a 63
yard punt return and the other
on a 45 yard reverse.
Quarterback Brian MacKenzie
'scored on a .quarterback option
play, good Jor 14 yards and
halfback Bruce Stoll went over
on a short dive play from the
• one to give the Vikings a twelve
point lead in the first half.
" Other Vikingscoring came
from a touchdown late in the

'girls have just recently taken up

was quite promising.

Coach Al Sumner explained -
that this year's team _is the
youngest ever for G.D.C.I., with
three of the four boys in grade
ten. He regarded their §cores;on
the long Stratford course as
"outstanding". In the past seven
years, the G.D.C.I. boys team,
has finished lower titan second
only three times.
