The people of Goderich, have
contributed over $1,000.00 to
the work of !the. Bible Society
during the recent campaign. This
report was given to -the Goderich
Branch by the President, William
McNaughton, at a meeting last
Monday at St. George's Hall.
"Tfiis amount is not a final
figure," Mr. McNaugffton
explained, "because some of the
canvas. money has not yet been
a turned in". , •
The figure is expected to
exceed last year's canvas total of
$1100.
Plans were made for a
banquet to be held in November
as a 'part of the educational
program of the Branch.
The meeting agreed to ask the
Rev. Jack Thompson, the
Superintendent of. the Western
Ontario District, to provide a
speaker. Tickets are to• be
distributed by the church
representatives in each Goderich
church. ,
Miss Beatrice Campbell,
secretary, was ' authorized to
complete arrangements for the
place and date of the banquet.
Mr.•McNaughton spoke of the
need to educate the. public about
,the purpose .of the Socie as
well as asking for money one d
year.
Seven Gdderich churches
were represented at the Meeting.

There .are 125 percent—more

instances, Goderich hospital

Members of the Huron Riding

exceptionally well with their
work to date, -but • all. is not
perfect.
The workers seem to have
effectively mastered ' the
techniques of political
campaigning but it would appear
they. need the 'assistance of an
aviation expert for" some
tutoring in aerodynamics.
The party "literally launched
their campaign for Goderich
Reeve Paul Carroll on Monday
and Tuesday of last week.
Monday evening was the scene
of an 'enthusiastic (ally but on
Tuelay things ran into a 'few
snags.
' Canvassing had resumed and
the election committee
proceeded with plan's to launch a
set of, helium -Inflated balloons'

;oft.
Initially it looked as though
• the idea was to be a b.ig.. success.
Three large balloons drifted
slowly into the evening sky and
were fixed some 300 feet about
the canvas area. The anticipated
attention was attracted.
When the time came around
to retrieve •the airborne
messages; however', it was found
the anchor line had quarrelled
with a 65 foot T.V.-antenna.'
A quick snip of the scissors

and holidays and at night when
doctors are not- in their Offices_
The study throughout the
county, continued Schaefer, has,
revealed thal'''file''first priority is
at Goderich and the second is at
Exeter.
He added'_`that'OHSC-will pay
two-thirds of all approved
building costs but the remaining
-one-third must be raised locally.
"In the past hospitals have
also received bequests from
estates which were used for
Construction," reported
Schaefer, "but these are not now

"Also hospital boards have

for construction," he continued.
"Goderich had one five years
ago which was quite successful
and the other boards have also
gone through these fund raising
drives. However it is our opinion
that today a hospital fund
raising. drive would not succeed,
as again,, people assume' the
governmeri't"'°`ys all costs and
because they feel they pay now
through their OHSIP
premiums." •
"Gentlemen, this is the
purpose of our request today,"
said Schaefer, "that the county

practice.
He also played for the GDCI

In questioning Wilkinson -
about the success of the Vikings
