"Tfiis amount is not a final figure," Mr. McNaugffton explained, "because some of the canvas. money has not yet been a turned in". , • The figure is expected to exceed last year's canvas total of $1100. Plans were made for a banquet to be held in November as a 'part of the educational program of the Branch. The meeting agreed to ask the Rev. Jack Thompson, the Superintendent of. the Western Ontario District, to provide a speaker. Tickets are to• be distributed by the church representatives in each Goderich church. , Miss Beatrice Campbell, secretary, was ' authorized to complete arrangements for the place and date of the banquet. There .are 125 percent—more electrocardiograms, on an average across the empty as well. In all instances, Goderich hospital showed the highest increases. Schaefer, said the main reason for 'the 'increases was the fact that OHSC 'Brough OHSIP pays for out-patient services. He added'_`that'OHSC-will pay two-thirds of all approved building costs but the remaining -one-third must be raised locally. "In the past hospitals have also received bequests from estates which were used for Construction," reported Schaefer, "but these are not now beim~~ received• --as-the public assumes the government pay 'alt --costs, ' "Also hospital boards have gon,e out on fund • r'aising drives for construction," he continued. "Goderich had one five years ago which was quite successful and the other boards have also gone through these fund raising drives. However it is our opinion that today a hospital fund raising. drive would not succeed, as again,, people assume' the governmeri't"'°`ys all costs and because they feel they pay now through their OHSIP premiums." • "Gentlemen, this is the purpose of our request today," said Schaefer, "that the county consider ,making a grant of One-third of the edst, based on the , percentage of the previous year's ' admissions ,of patients from Huron County. He , graduated from St. Lawrence University, Canton, New York State, one year ago, after starring with the Varsity hockey team for four years on a hockey scholarship. In talking to Wilkinson who came up through the Goderich Minor Hockey system R and played four years with the now defunct Jr. B team, he said that he credited the coaching of another Goderich Hockey star, Ted Williams to his success in hockey. He remembered when Ted used to have the, team out at 6 o'clock in the morning to practice. He also played for the GDCI Viking football team and still holds. 'the- record for forwards pushing over 1000 yards in one season. In questioning Wilkinson - about the success of the Vikings he remarked that without a doubt coach Wayne Horor 'has to have all the credit. Horner not only knows his football, Wilkinson said, .,but *has the ability to get the most but of his players year after year. Wilkinson's duties at the - U n iversity ' will consist of freshman hockey coach, Varsity golf coach, Co-ordinator of hockey recruitment, and Director of -Appleton Arena.
