discussed the importance of
politics and democracy. "We are
in danger of losing the rights
we enjoy under the democratic
system," Dr., Smith warned,
"because of public apathy .
towards government."
"There are to many people
involved in politics after what
they can get out of it rather than
'what they can put in," he
„charged. Dr. Smith, went on to
suggest that the popular vote
does not always produce the
most qualified men for office
because' these people, will not
always run. "Most don't run
because, of the sacrifice
involved," Dr. Smith pointed
out, "members of the legislature
are not overpaid as many would
have us .believe." .
In his remarks the doctor also
suggested that Canada suld
stick ' to a two party system . _

minority governments and
similar situations that slow a Dunlop MiIkinTiger is often better than

"If we are to elect the best
people., to office in this next
election we must defeat this
apathy," he said. "The secret of
the N:D.P. has : always been its
enthusiastic' workers and
certainly not its large -election
budgets," Dr. ,Srnith stressed. If
the Liberal party is to elect" its
candidates it needs workers just
as- enthusiasticas those in the
other ranks, he indicated.
Alia! plans were made to

Liberal nomination meeting in
