The Goderich Signal-Star, 1971-09-02, Page 23• From the Minister's studIr BY'REV, G.L., ROYAL, KNOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 'the words must come fast! What is one to do? You are reaching out for a deadline and something must be said. It is that time of year again. People are making their plans for --the' and Winter - what will I involve myself in? Gond ti question, What will be my plan? Well whatever 1 am to do.it • must be useful.. It must make some contribution somehow. There is so much time wasted! Have I really time to re -think my life? Have I the 'tulle. at hand to remake my image my vocation - my work? Death is just around -the .corner - someone has said - and -time is fleeing. There is a deadline to make and am I ready? • Men speak of the nitty-gritty. What is the nitty-gritty? I suppose 'y they mean , the fundamentals of life. You are getting down to the basis - the essenee - the foundation. Has my life a meaning •for today - tomorrow? Did it really,4 mean r► something yesterday? 'Or, has all been fruitless, a loss, a waste of talent, time and topic? There is a deadline' to make - and can I do it? It v WILLIAMS CEMETERY MEMORIA LS' And Inscriptions. •••• .Stratford •°-- Ontario C. McCallum Representative 215' Wellington St. S.; Goderich Phone 5246272 or 524-7345 , iI MEMORIALS -MARKERS & CEMETERY ,LETTERING Yes if I will go aside for a little time and think there is a distinct possibility I' " will succeed. Why am 1 here? What am I to • do? Live! Love! Do! God has a plan for every life. • Our contribution 'to the scheme 'of things, may appear very small to us - but = it must snake its mark. I have a deadline to meet! It is in terms of my relationship to God and to man. I cannot say I believe all the guidelines of God and then go out and do exactly as I please. I am free - yes - but once I commit myself to a set of principles then I must govern myself by those principles. If I say I • love God then I must turn around and in sincerity love man also. This is His commandment. You cannot live half a life. Just last night I saw a beautiful moving picture concerning the rife of Buddha. One of the things that came home to me is this, "Revenge ..begets revenge: evil begets evil." So much depends on my relationships. Christ (and His greatest, ambassador, ',Paul) told us that good must be our deadline. If we are treated harshly we must not return evil for evil. 'Good must be • our response. Forgiveness must be our forte. It was portrayed best on the Ci`'oss. , What about that Cros4 Jesus, said, "Father; forgive' them 'for they know not what they do." This was His exemplification of the best. He was in the process of crucifixion and yet He could forgive. He was dying for' the sins of others -. yet, He could forgive. How small become -our trials. How often we' return. evil for evil! It is not making for a batter world. Can .we go the second mile? • - •'Time would be well spent in returning forgiveness for evil done.. We could • meet our deadline if we tried. We are in the world to do our level best. It may sound soft when we say it, but we are here to show. a kindness, to be patient, to resolve difficulties, to • show affection where there appears to be none. We are in our station to be Christ's man or woman - in all situations. That is the deadline we must meet. People are'people - and must be treated as people. They are living entities. They deserve our best. Christ died to elevate them. Christ died to give them nobility. As we start out a new Fall can we meet our personal deadline? Can we draw closer to the Master? Can we let our faith live? 'Can we stand again in the glory of the resurrection and know He accomplished all for us? Will we adhere to His promise and gain strength from it? "And, lo, 1 am with you always, even unto the end of the` world. Here is the. source. Here is the .meaning of it all. He is standing today beside you and all His 'power is available to you. Draw on it! Believe- in it! Depend on it! You will 'surely meet your deadline. ti •W. . • . • '1:r11, PERIa1i l SI ANALe1'",.17 e 1k,i R A .M t,+,S.Ad1 IIIimmoilllllllililllii10l1ililllllll0mlillilll111ililllllililllllllllllllllllltilllllllilli111111111111111111101(11011111111illlllllililUlI111111pi1iI1niiliililUlllllilllii.111111Iililllllll W .... . -i.• odertch goof $f, 0 Y y. r- a iY- .o uari 6oderkh NELSON ALBERT H\►RNACK Royal Canadian'° • Legion Branch 109 and Rebekah Lodge Number 89 both conducted special services this week for Nelson Albert, Harnack who died August 29 at Alelndra Marine and General Hospital after an illness of three weeks.
