The. age Qf tke ugly girl
They 'tell us this has been the Agq, of
Aquarius. But it's really been the Age 6f
the. --.Ugly Girl.
Of, course there- are a lot of lovely
pres--they stand out• almost[
incandescently, so fresh, so natural, their
hair shining, their faces clean and
uhmade-up.. Yet they too are a trifle
oyer -exposed and in their extt`erne minis
all longhair, resembling nothing so rriuch

Nonetheless, these attractive ones only
serve to emphasize the generally unkempt,,
unpressed, almost unwashed look of the
majority of girls Who stroll our.. streets'.

girls, they seem deliberately to choose the
styles that emphasize the bad points.
Where this passion for ugliness will
end, no one knows. Are these supposedly
„hip" youngsters governed, by *e "same
herd instinct which causes woianen to
conform to fashions which flatter no one.

Woman to Woman
I had a long chat a few days
ago with Goderich Police Chief
Minshall. Our discussion dealt
with a number of subjects, one
of them being yo'u'th and
youthful offences. -
I told Chief Minshall that I
believe that parents are having a
difficult time these days . raising
children who are influenced so
greatly by the world around
them: I suggested that parents
are sometimes lacking in
knowledge about certain modern
devices -anti -thatit°"w'nuld be a
great' thing if there was
s'omeplac'e parents could go to
get the information , they so
badly need.
They Chief handed me a,slide
rule - a colorful red, white and
blue gadget - called ae Narcoti'cs
Identification Guide.
"Here," the Chief said, "Tell
me how I can get one of these
into the hands of all the parents
who are interested.'
