Sin, -I wish to convey tO the man-
agement of the -yesterday's 24th May
celebration compliments for the suc-
cessful. manner in which they adver-
tised and carried out one of the most
gigautic farces ever perpetrated on
the public of this community1 un-
derstand that ever since last winter
when certain people of your town had
their idol so rathlessly shattered that
they have been doing all kinds of
things, almost breaking their necks to
put togssther the broken ft:age-hems
and restore hire again to his place on
the altar of public opinion. This has
been done in various ways -creamery,
Chicago, Foundry, 241h May, &c, all
to give notoriety, big lettered bills
With name of big caps, everything in
fact that could be done to bonne their
man. But of all the fakes that has
yet been turned out, yesterday's puts
on the cep sheaf. 1, as a coularyman,
will not soon forget this kiud of way of
gulling us innocent, confiding people
out of our spare pence. If this is
booming Exeter I want no more of it,
and pronounce it a disgrace to those
whose names appeared on the bills and
their private secretar,y. The concert
was a fitting wind up to a day of
frauds and now Bawden et el can pock-
et the proceeds and laugh at us dupes,
and perhaps effer a tithe to the poor as
last year Well, go on, but if that is
fair dealing to gull those people who
are the backbone of the support of
your town, 1 don't know fair play and
decency-. Yours,
COUNTRYMAN.

London, May 23rd -The Mark Lane
Exprese, in its weekly review of the

the demand for imported wheat and
flour is slack, Argentine wheat finds
favor with millers at a wholesale price
of 28s. American and Russian wheat
shipments continue to be liberal, 3,348-
