R.R. 2 Goderich presently have
twenty-four horses, with three
facing and four others in
training. The rest are eitiler
colts, yearlings- or brood maies.

Besides the colt out of their
mare Deep, Run Jan, who .has

'consecutive years, Ted and Alma

a son of the World Champion

been retired -this year after five
start, with two wins, two
places, and one show, She was
bred to Von Dyke Hanover of
the Doo 'little Stables of
GOderich.

include such notables as Deep
Run Volamite and Deep
Good—Time. The • other-suckin
colts are Deep Runs Dora, Lyn
and Denny. Their yearlings are

Runs of course.

training. Three year-olds Erne
and Alma are also intraining.
Deep Run Dolly so far has
.had four starts, with one win at
Clinton, and has qualified at'
London Western Fair Raceway.
She took a mark'ofA.,12.1 at

Danny is now thirteen years
old. He began racing in 1960,
endirigThis 'careery in 1966 with
total earnings of* $12,813. His
Life Time Mark of 21'05.0 he
bettered at London Raceway on
July 2, 1966, going the mile thAt
established Western Fair's
-previous- record of 2:03.3 in
2:04.2. He crossed the line in
the show "pcisition.
Alma told me how after being
mimed up for a race, Deep Run,
Danny would not allow anyone
to pat him or even come near
him, so she simply tied a string
onto hip halter and laid 'down
and went to sleep. •
A lot of other unusual' things
went on in those days,. for that,
was • back when you. :could
choose your competition. for a
race instead of stibmittIng
entries un,cler. various
clacsfliCations and having to race.
if, accepted. The result was that
other owners refused .-to race
against Danny at 6oderich. This
forced his owners to take him to
other tracks. He 'retired at the
age of eight, and Ted ani_lma____,
are now working on, his colts, th
the first of which was Deep Run
Alma.
He is a half' brother to -their
second colt Deep Run Danny:
▪ Atom was sold in 1961.
'nanny's name was registered in
• the fall of -1958: To add to the
confusion, in 1960, they bought
• Lily Hawk Lee, Who Was '
carrying Deep Run Grattan at
the time. Lily Hawk' Lee is the.
mother of Deep Run Dolly, and
Deep ;Ron, Grattan,p,3�7.1, is
• the -mother of theix two -year -Old
now, in training, Deep Run Mac.
She has had two Danny colts so
far.
Ted and Alma have had
thirty-eight horses, since their
marriage. Ted does most of the
wing, but' Alma is also licensed
and will sometirnes. drive deep
Run Peter, her favourite horse.
Peter is not by Danny: He Was
bought as a yearling and had his
name changed to that of the
stables. Ted trains' the horses at.
The Stables officially
registered their Deep Run
trademark in 1960. Ted owned

ep Run Ann and was training Goderich Raceway.
Easter Maid before he Was The Deep Run Stables
married in 1959. Their first colt concentrate on good breeding,
out of Ann was by Might Atom.
His name was Deep Run Atom. r -

Sailing Club for the weekly races
held Sunday mornings'oh Lakc
Huron.
Dr. M. Watts emerged winner
on Sunday ,with 'an actual sailing
time • 'of 65 minutes and a
corrected time of 56.5 minutes.
Second place went to Pete
, Collier sailing Gemini, who
completed the Taurse- in 77

Hollywood Duchessi a black two year-old mare, was purchased
by Mr. Chisholm at the Sully sale. Mr. ,and -Mrs. James
Chisholm, Alma's parents, live on the farm with Ted and his
wife, and Jim has high hopes for racing this mare successfully
next year.
